Another massacre

Recommended Posts

Just this evening listening to Andrew Neal on the tv phone, ( a political commentator) and he quoted a few figures, not sure of the accuracy as they are his words not mine. During the War of Independance the 'British' 'managed' to kill 4,500 'Americans' and that, given the current figures on gun crime it is apparent that this would just be a 'bad month' in America now, and, that in truth Americans are far more effective and proficient at killing their own Countryman than any foreign army ever achieved!

I just wonder, perhaps, just if those figures are realised that there might be a change. Been reading and discussing this a lot, I think most agree that something has to be done, the main problem seems to be how to do it!

I dont have any newer figures than 2014, but in 2014 there were a total of 33,599 firearms related deaths however this figure includes accidents & suicides not just murders, the total of firearms homicides for that year was 10,945. So 4500 wouldn't be a bad month more of a bad 5 months if your basing it on homicides alone.

Snakey,

I agree - - "however, this figure includes accidents & suicides not just murders."

The relevancy it "guns". Whether it is 5 months or 5 years over the long haul the use of guns in the United States puts the rest of the whole world combined to shame.

I favor the 2nd amendment. It is a cultural issue, not a gun issue (IMO)

Depends on how you count the figures phone, using the number of firearms deaths per 100,000 people the USA is actually ranked 11th in the world see http://www.worldatlas.com/articles/countries-with-the-highest-rates-of-firearm-related-deaths.html

As for your second statement i agree totally its not a gun problem but a cultural issue

Snakey,

Yes, one can use numbers to the advantage of any position. For example, if you said "per gun owned" we would be in the bottom few. You would have to divide 300,000,000 guns by 10,945.

Again we agree, NOT a gun issue

It does: 28 mass killings in the US in October.

A mass killing in the US is one where the body count is four or more. (if I was listening to the news correctly).

...........but don't forget, it's nothing to do with guns. :uhuh::rolleyes:

Edit: mass shooting might be a better description, you might not need to die to become a statistic. https://www.massshootingtracker.org/data
