California Fires

Recommended Posts

All,

I've never heard of this. One of the several fires is so large is is creating it's own weather. The clouds of smoke rise to great heights and then collapse changing 60 - 80 mph winds to reverse 180 degrees.

I have been following these fires with slightly more than casual interest as I have family in the area. There is no explanation for the devastation. (203,000 acres)

(I might also add, no telling what the actuarial numbers will be for MY fire insurance next year)

Prolonged drought = lots of dead trees and scrub.

There was then some rain but come the next dry spell and you have a tinderbox.

Just be thankfull you don't have eucalyptus forests.

I've only been caught up in a forest fire once and although I was safe from everything but smoke (I was in the middle of a river), it was bloody scary with flames 10 - 15m in the air and exploding bamboo.

I feel for anyone watching it approach their home.

John,

Maybe the first one. Now cinders are blowing up to 5 miles torching new events. California on the West side of the mountains is a heavily vegetated desert exacerbated by a population of idiots that plant and water lush tender for the perfect storm.
