We have catkins on the trees and the local corvids are starting to gather twigs for nest building. The bulbs are above ground but not even the snowdrops are looking like flowering.

All,

63fish (17ish) degree here. First really warm day in several week. Went down and watched the ice break up on the river. The "hints" of spring haven't begun yet except that I am ready. I do have a pair of resident woodpeckers I believe to be courting. But he!!, how can you tell. They've been together about as long as I've been.

We now have colour on the crocuses although the flowers still aren't fully open.

The local wood-pigeons are also starting to get jiggy.

We have just found an empty wood-pigeon egg-shell by our front hedge, and on Friday our walk on the Ashdown Forest yielded a woodlark claiming its territory (up in the air like a skylark, returning to a high perch on a birch tree) They usually wait until late February.
