I THINK they are hazel katkins, but not 100% sure.

Small tree, bush, shrub. Depends on how you define tree.

 

Dwarf Willow is a tree. You'll find them in the Cairngorms.

Seqoia is a tree, found in California (and there are one or two in Balloch Park ;-)

Thanks Ken. It does look like an evergreen and I could not quite work out how a hazel could have leaves at this time of year.

There's one that grows in the woods near a pool I occasionally fish that I still haven't identified. It's a shrub with leaves that look exactly like those of a sweet chestnut but it's an evergreen.

A very pretty plant for the back of a border.

I'm not agreeing yet. The flower is wrong. We have some oak trees with "lily of the valley" type blossoms. I will have to see if I can find an image. Then again, "evergreen" has me stumped? Be back after morning cofee.
