As the title suggests, the big law firms will be chasing up the Windrush immigrant victims & will take the Establishment to the cleaners (& rightly so) for it's clients.

I seem to remember very clear messages about a deadline for naturalisation as British citizens around 10 years ago.

I really have very little sympathy for folks who know that they have to make a formal application for citizenship but couldn't be arsed to sort it out - for 50 years.

I didn't know that Ken - so why has Mr's May issued an apology then?? - when Maybe she should have taken the very same stance as yourself.

That may have been because those affected's Landing Passes were destroyed, making it impossible to prove that ......

A) Who they are (now the landing pass destruction thing has come to light)

B) They landed on our shores legally.

C) It's only recently become an issue re new immigrant laws.

Many of whom landed using their parents passports/documents. (Legal at the time)

They Naturally assumed that because they were Initially accepted, there would be no future problem with them being able to stay, so Where do you get 50 Years from Ken if the Deadline was 10 years ago.

Of course the apology could well have been issued to avoid any, "Because My Skin Is Black" inferences at all costs!!

It would make sense to destroy historical documents after the deadline was past would it not?

It's not difficult to imagine a reverse situation where the press are lambasting the government for retaining irrelevant historical data relating to the previous immigration status if naturalised citizens.

People get twitchy about over-retention of information, just as they do about the destruction of stuff that turns out to have utility 9 years after the fact.

Chesters1 top tip to protect info ,gather it into years then put it in a vacuum sealer (food not those hoover bag things) and vacuum seal it ,turns into a brick then put it in the loft for eternity!

Not so silly i once had to prove something that cropped up 6 years earlier ,i got the brick of the right year down unsealed it and stuck it to them! They agreed i did and went off in a huff.

Actually i think it was car insurance where they said i hadnt been with them six years ago for a no claims issue when i had two policies for 2 vehicles

Fortunately in this "paperless" society paper lasts a lot longer than a dead hardrive on an badly staffed server!

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

Life insurance? you wont enjoy a penny!

Yes, I've done a couple of subject access requests with my long term employer and subsequently had cause to open them up to provide them with documents that had mysteriously gone missing several years latter.

Just another Westminster/Whitehall foul up, what more would you expect?
