If you dont want nests in your roof or shed (and perhaps paying £40 a nest to have them destroyed) now is the time to sit in the garden glass in hand looking out for queen wasps chewing wood for the start of nests.

They dislike unplaned wood but look for the telltale 2" scars on fences and woodern garden furniture ,kill her now saves hassle in the future

You will also sse her exploring the eaves and roof (especially non slate roofs)for nest sites ,same applies!

I'm a council tenant & we had a nest in the living room air brick so I phoned the Leeds city Council?? Pest Control number.

It was THEN explained to me by them that they didn't actually belong to the council, but took work from them AND it was going to cost ME £52 for the nest destroying!!

I wasn't having any of that, so I phoned the LCC Environmental saying that The council is the Landlord - I'm merely a tenant, therefore the Nest was theirs - NOT Mine!!

Sure enough, next day they came along & destroyed it FOR FREE.

How many more companies are Masquerading as council, when in fact they are in fact, hiding behind Council phone book pages. :g:

:clap3: Had a wasp nest in my last house under the floor boards, they got in through the air brick. Not a problem until neighbours kids started faffing around and trying to shoo them away and one got stung. Kids parents got all leery and wanted the nest destroyed, I just banned their kids from the garden, no more problems. Got one in our roof, they come every year, not a problem I just move very carefully when in the loft, the nests are the size of footballs and I've not been stung yet, famous last words. :clap3:

They are very good for the garden and remove lots of critters looking to eat your plants but theres hundreds of acres outside of the house and shed to nest ,i get personal when they insist on moving in!

I posted a topic a few years ago about a nest of wood wasps (smaller than jaspers) they kept themselves to themselves and it wasnt until late in the year i got stung ,i just blocked the hole so they couldnt use the nest the next year but jaspers dont get such lenience ,i spot a queen its dead ,i spot a nest its chesterised

Hi Norm - you can get a foam spray from B&Q which encases the nest & the insecticide it contains, kills them.

Do it at night though when the buggers are home & in their gym Jams. :bye1:

We have a hornets nest in an old shed at the bottom of the garden. In the past we have had one in a bird nesting box.

TBH they are no trouble if left alone and the don't return yto old nest sites so I am happy to let them live in peace.
