I think it may be some kind of Sorbus but I am not sure.

Might be. I'll be walking past it again next Wednesday. I'll take a closer squint at it to see if it has spines and I'll have a closer look at the bark.

You're trying to hard. Black Locust - leaf turns pink to coral in the fall. Burns EXTREMELY hot but will pop coals 10m.

 

A North American staple. I have no other guess.

Robinia pseudoacacia AKA False acacia AKA Black Locust.

They grow wild around here, especially on acidic sandstone banks.

OK, here's a fun one.
I'm trying to get an ID on what my parents always refer to as "the dirty tree".

It's a smallish tree with silver grey leaves. The leaves are simple ovals with notched edges and about now, the floor under them is covered in a thick layer of fallen catkin like flowers.
