Ken,

It is my guess, since the article isn't specific, is that the cork and subsequent water eruption was the "explosion". As it is written, the article somewhat goes out of the way to not define exactly what happened. I doubt there is any way the entire device was involved.

Its the disease of man you only read the instructions when something goes wrong ,they clearly say leave the cork out

If 'teachers' are involved most will be out of sight smoking fags or worse leaving the kids to fend for themselves ,i wouldnt trust a 'teacher' as far as i can throw one ,they think they are far to inteligent to read instructions thats for everyone else!

The cork was probably pushed in hard the resulting pressure once the water started boiling forced the cork out and the recoil knocked the kettle over spraying boiling water in every direction ,obviously action and reaction alluded those that are supposed to impart knowledge to our children that why half cannot read on leaving primary school!

The old adage, "Those who can, Do, Those who Can't - Teach" strikes a chord here. Not putting emoji on this time, not appropriate when kids get hurt.

Here's the science bit - a confined space, combined with fire & liquid = Bad news. Anyone with a modicum of common sense (Teachers apart apparently) knows that!!
