So we've already ploughed £1.2bn in to Galileo and we are told we can't use it???

It seems that there are doubts about whether we can be trusted with such sensitive information. That's disregarding the amount of input we've had into developing the system!

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Little old GB building it's own system is a silly knee-jerk response to a stupid decision.
On the positive side, I have family members who design satellite systems and despite being ardent Europhiles, they stand to do very nicely out of a UK system being commissioned.

All,

Just sounds like a hard exit to me. When Galileo is done in 2019 you can become a paying customer. Until then, it is free to all comers.

I seriously doubt it is the "worst" stone in the road. Carry on

John.

Its a bit of a p1ss take that apparently now we can't be trusted with the system yet the EU still want to share the information obtained by our security services, well f**k off would be my response to that you can't have one without the other.

It is an EU project and you chose to leave the EU. What else would you expect?

Imagine that you are a member of a fishing club that acquires a new lake. It needs refurbishing so you go to the work parties and invest a lot of time and effort as well as contributing to the re-stocking fund, The lake is showing great promise when, due to unrelated issues, you decide to leave the club.

Would you still expect to be able to fish in the lake?

As for security information share, the clue is in the word "share" The UK stands to benefit at least as much as the EU. You stand to get information from 27 countries whilst they only get information from one. It is in your own interest.

This is exactly it we decided to leave we threw the towel in then still want all the benefits its laugable really but when you look at all the down sides to brexit the brexiteers try to blame the other side when it is them who got us into this position just stand back and watch the circus as it plays out .

It is true that EU commissioners are not elected, one is selected from each member state. They are however, approved by the EU parliament, who are elected. Of course, if your elected member of Parliament chooses not to attend or vote then you have no say in the matter.

Any new legislation produced by the commissioners has to be voted on and approved by the elected members of the EU Parliament. See previous comment.

Their wishes are carried out by unelected staff in exactly the same way that British Civil Servants carry out the wishes of Members of the British Parliament. There are about 33,000 members of the EU staff. There are about 440,000 members of the British Civil Service.
