quick release connectors for landing net

I have tried a variety of these but the don't seem to last. The Korum ones have a brass bit that screws into the net and ahs a weak fixing that pulls out too easily. The prologic ones are difficult the relaese when there is a fish in the net. I want to release the pole once I have the fish in the net, as I have broken too many poles lifting fish out.

Any suggestions from practical experience, not makers claims

Personally, I simply ship the handle behind me & place the net head between my thighs to unhook the fish.

Would only take a few seconds to unscrew the net alternatively.

Unless I'm missing your point??

Wotnob,

What are you catching, or attempting to catch. I never lift a fish, any fish with the handle horizontal to the water. The handle must be vertical to the water. How long a handle are you working with? Is the margin full of gunk? Over a wall I have a collapsible basket. I can't think of any instance where I put leverage on the net handle.

I do as you say but I want to remove the pole to carry the net to the unhooking mat as it gets in the way

Wotnob,

Ohh, makes sense. It is possible, I can't find the one I recommend (because of price). This URL will give you the idea. There is a push button on the handle down by the net. The handle slides over the net (with the fish in it) and then push the button again and extent the handle when you get to the unhooking mat. It is 4ft but there is also another button at the butt end of the pole that allows you to extend it another 3 ft (?I think).

This one is the cream of the crop from Cabelas. Don't panic, others make them less expensive although they aren't cheap..

Ohh, you can order them with whatever net material you wish. We've (in America) gone to rubberized. Why? cause everyone is doing it I guess.

I do have one of these so-called quick release gadgets fitted to one of my net handles, but I went and bought myself a landing net handle that comes with a short 8 to 10 inch section which disengages with the net attached so that I can carry my fish to my unhooking mat without the handle getting in the way.

Phone, this is a picture of the handle attached to my 24 x 25 inch landing net which I use when I am after Barbel and Carp into double figures; although at a push it can be used with larger Carp nets too as its fairly strong.

I think its made by Drennan and it has POLE MASTER 2.8m MEGA CARP NET POLE 2 SECTION TELE printed on its side (see pic below)

Both the short extension section and the longer section that it slides over have screw threads so you can use the handle with or without the short extension; and the two larger sections are telescopic.

Although the short extension fits over the next section the fit is nice and secure and never comes free of its own accord and there is a strengthened piece that you can hold on to when you twist and release the short extension section with the net attached.
