Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

I admit I had to scratch my head when I saw this, and thought Martin might have had little Saturday night tipple. :drunk:

I decided to google it, and it's a Channel 4 'documentary', described by one critic as "partisan, but powerful". Supposedly about the struggles connected with Universal Credit, a source of real struggle for some. Channel 4 decide to focus on some people that go to 'extremes' to get money. These include one who admits breaking into empty houses to steal metal for scrap, and one bright spark who decided to rob drug dealers. Because of this he's afraid for his life, so he goes on to star in a TV documentary !!

I've not watched it but scanned through this lot, judge for yourself.

Oh and for you who prefer more adult programming, 'Friends without benefits' is also the name of a recent episode of 'The Family Guy'.

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Thing is, it's the ones that are genuinely "born thick" that society should reach out to and support.

It's the ones who are too lazy to work at school or as adults that we should be coming down on like a tone of bricks.

And then of course, there's the ones whose parents have allowed them to be badly behaved, encouraged them to skip school and failed to support so that their behaviour gets them a diagnosis of ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder, SEMH issues or whatever thatsupports a benefits claim... I don't believe in a hell but if I did, there would be a special place in it for such parents.

Do those conditions not exist?

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Show me a neurochemical or physiological explanation for ADHD if you can - pretty much the only argument for it being real is that it responds to stimulant medication. Of course, it responds equally well to behavioural therapies so make of that what you will.

SEMH is just an educational label.

Trouble is with half the stuff in DSM5 is that it's just a label for a presentation - often with a very low diagnostic threshold.

Even bereavement is listed as an illness if it lasts more than two weeks and the reason for these very low thresholds for a diagnostic label is the American health insurance system which is predicated upon diagnosis before treatment.
