More eye surgery..

10 years ago, I had an eye injury that required surgical repair and a viterectomy.

I still have no vision to the left of the visual field for my right eye.

3 years ago, I had to have a lens implant because I developed a cataract and that wouldn't have been a problem except there was a power cut during the procedure and by the time they rebooted all the kit, the anaesthetic wore off while they were still operating - I was not a happy bunny.
And now I'm back to being functionally blind in my right eye (good enough to navigate but can't read) due to a condition called Posterior capsule opacification that will require laser surgery.

I'm currently on my second sicky day due to headaches bought on my stupidly trying to read a set of very large documents that had text so small that I needed a magnifying glass and am getting tired of it already.

Has anyone had this sort of laser surgery and if so, what can you tell me about outcomes and recovery time?

New one on me Ken, but I do hear good things about laser surgery on eyes.

Whatever, I hope it goes well and gets you back some decent function.

All the best.

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

Cheers.

I know a couple of people who have had laser surgery on their retina or to correct refractive errors but I'd never heard of this condition or laser surgery on this part of the eye before (correctly) self diagnosing prior to taking myself to the hospital last week.

Looks like I'll be trashing my flexi-time for the next few weeks doing short days until I can get the op sorted.

I just hope I don't end up hiding in the house with photosensitivity once it's sorted like last time - although that's fairly unlikely because this has come on quick and I had the dense cataract for a long time.

Edit: Looks fairly straightforward.

Ken,

I would pretty much trust any new eye surgery. I believe eye surgery advances have come further than any other medical procedure.

That's a nasty sewing accident you had there.

I have some pretty horrific photos of my eye from immediately after my injury/surgery too.

Good luck ,the idea of some operation on my eyes horrifies me but in some cases its better to grit your teeth short time than things getting worse!

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

For the trauma surgery, I was knocked out.

For the cataract op/lens implant, if it wasn't for the anaesthetic issue, it would have been a walk in the park. Yes, someone is sticking a knife in your eye and you are fully conscious but you don't see the surgeon or even the scalpel, you just see a very bright light.

I was effectively blind prior to the cataract surgery and had put it off for a good while despite the problems it was causing at work but having trains cancelled and having to cycle home along the A456 at niht with vision so distorted that I had a triple image for every oncoming headlight scarred me enough to make it a no-brainer.

Hi Ken,

You have been in the wars and it's scaring me witless.....

I have had a quadruple bypass after stents having been fitted previously, and now face the prospect of aortic valve replacement surgery.

Oh, yeah, I'm not sure which will happen first - the heart surgery or cataract removals.

This is a signature, there are many signatures like it but this one is mine

As above, apart from the power failure, the cataract surgery was a walk in the park. I was chatting to an old dear about 15 minutes after she had had hers done and she was totally unphased - so don't stress it.
I can't comment on the valve replacement surgery but Arnold Schwarzenegger is still going strong after having his done more than 20 years ago.
