Winfield Tackle.

Also told it was 'shakey' stuff some years ago when my daughter let a bloody great french carp run off with my 'family heirloom' winfield rod that both I, my 3 brothers and our kids had all caught our first fish on.

Think it was purchased late 60's - seem to remember that our woolies was still selling some fishy stuff after getting rid of the farthings though.

And I remember buying some line and hooks for 'handlining' for gudgies on the Thames at Marlow in 1977, thought that came from woolies?

I remember getting some stuf in '78, '79 from Woolies and I still have some of it, even a 12' beachcaster that I still use sometimes

What an ahead of its time range of tackle they used to sell. The rods especially. Those were the days when "specialist" rods were like rocking horse droppings yet Woolies sold a complete range of them.Even sold baitcasting rods and reels.I also vaguely remember the Toby/Shanny episode. So cheap as well.....even more so if you swapped the price sticker as you could in them days :o ........well I was only young!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Wouldn't it be nice if Woolies did start to sell tackle again. When I was a lad, it was the first place I'd head when we were down town. Without Winfield tackle to spend my pocket money on I doubt my fishing would ever have really taken off.

Let's hope they (or somebody like Tesco?) could start doing so again for a new generation of young (and not-so-young) anglers!

Yup all the big French supermarkets have a fishing section - why not here?

Its only in recent years that the big chains have started selling fishing mags in the UK.An angling friend of mine who is a mamager at a Tescos told mr it was because angling was not seen as politically correct and there were worries of reprisals from the antis.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

No, please! Don't let Woolies sell tackle!

Their assistants must be handpicked as the slowest they could find. They're also rude enough to chat to each other while they're taking half an hour to process the sale...

And tackle dealers don't have 'righting the world' discussions all day long with that "odd" bloke who's always hanging around the counter then Pango?
