Representative Organisations

Recommended Posts

I just read the letter from DEFRA here:

http://www.sacn.org.uk/Conservation-and-Po...Article_47.html

In it, it says:

We are planning to hold meetings with representative organisations in January

Who are these 'representative organisations'?

I sea fish, but as far as I'm concerned, I don't have a 'representative organisation'. There are a few single-species groups, but they don't interest me and I don't know of any that have what could be described as a 'significant' membership. Most are just a few hundred strong, I believe. If that, in some cases. None have been granted permission to speak on my behalf, that's for sure.

I've written to DEFRA to ask if I can make my own voice heard, but I do fear that others will be completely missed out.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

I've just received an email from DEFRA.

I've always tried to keep away from the political side of things, but I think this may change.

I'm still totally unaware who these 'representative organisations' are.

I think we all know who these well meaning representative organisations are? :whistling:

They've been craving to enter the political arena as Stakeholders for the last few years now and I fear they may not like the recognition that they have been hollering for :(

If this goes through then we can thank 'our' reps for a shed load of restrictions to sea angling and job losses to coastal areas that can ill afford to suffer any further loss.

“Defra is my shepherd; I shall not want.

They maketh me to lie down on steep beaches

They leadeth me beside the rough waters and I start counting

They restoreth my sole

They leadeth me in the paths of Article 47 for their pensions’ sake

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of discards, I will fear no evil

For thou art with me; my rod and my reel, they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies

Thou anointest my fish with oil;

But my plate and cup doth NOT runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life

Unfortunately, I shall dwell in my house in Brussels for ever.”

Elton, Having read yours and Barry's feelings again, it's probably worth pointing out to DEFRA that these lunatics are self-appointed and are not representing angling as a whole beyond their own self-interests. This is probably one of the greatest attacks against sea angling that I have ever seen and the last thing needed is RSA behaving like turkeys voting for Christmas.

A few years back, anglers were advised not to get involved with the Countryside Alliance on the fox hunting ban for fear of them being targeted next and also the view that nobody could dare to hit on angling, given the Drew Report... blah, blah, blah...

Well now I'm not so sure as the chickens have truly come home to roost.

I think we all know who these well meaning representative organisations are?

Honestly, I don't have a list of ones that DEFRA recognise. I'm told that they'll get back to me, so we'll see.

Either way, I hope to make my own voice heard AND make it possible for other anglers to do the same.

I have not been consulted by anyone as to what I want from my hobby, so I'll have to tell them directly.

I also don't know what is being said 'on my behalf', which is even scarier.

Oh, nothing important. Just that you want a strategy, that you don't mind being excluded from fishing in certain areas, that you won't mind having a bag limit, that you won't mind paying for a sea angling licence, that you think scientific studies and research are beneficial to sea angling, that you want to fill in a log book, that you don't want to take fish home to eat, among other things. The usual stuff. Nothing to worry about, it's all in hand. You see, even if you don't realise it yet, there are people out there who know better than you. When you have all those things mentioned above, you can thank them.

In all seriousness, though, things have gone far enough now. The situation has reached "serious" status. I have taken the much punted advice of people who know better than me, and have written to my MP. I've let him know exactly what I think, asked for him to raise some questions with the Minister, and requested a meeting with him. I recommend that as many people as possible do the same.
