  1. The only downfall of mushroom compost is it's unsuitable for acid liking plants as it has chalk in it .Fine for toms though ,I usually use a very expensive fertiliser which contains calcium to prevent blossom end rot ,I skimped it this year and used some lime instead ,my susceptible strains got blossom end rot ! Not a good year slow start every tom in that compost died ,two that didn't get it fine and hanging baskets thriving on yet another compost .Hopefully my stripy toms make it this year in the center of my tunnel they just started to show signs of ripening last year a day of rain ,next day a sign of blight ,two days later stalks going black we took the biggest and watched them rot within a week . The 4 hanging baskets not in the tunnel have dog umbrellas over them ,my sister was very amused Whilst on gardening this is probably the most useful and money saving thing I have ever bought .Now I don't recommend using the previous years compost for the same plant but it's great for saving money recovering compost to use in other containers but you will get random seeds germinating as there's no way of steralising the compost in bulk. Forget sore arms trying to move soil on a round riddle this only makes one arm sore saving 50% sore arms https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gr8-Garden-Compost-Screener-Gardening/dp/B0DFQ6ST5Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=2JJVLREDPJBY0&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.xc3jr7YX5OTEvpg-hALHt56nhMfQrNsLzmO2TSycGIuW93bTTtnvacuCgIdjm7-rmTks3VZRNiAhMmlJEz6nB6eoYjEujXOJGA6a9fj4DwgYs6-8enxekYjXRT72vYsmX8sni114NpLuUEgZP0tHw1yBOml3rSmiX0JVibyYvvBUU1qGrX6FUbnu6o4L6gZuF2PLuckMxtod3Py-EY6X5g.4zvEqTDVxAm7rBWs204O-l1dKtVOMq9ftW0oAbAC-dE&dib_tag=se&keywords=rotary+soil+sieve&qid=1752913885&sprefix=rotary+sei%2Caps%2C492&sr=8-3
  2. Yes I bought 5 of them ,not for tomatoes but 3 for strawberries (which also failed in that compost) one of carrots (still tiny in that compost) and ones still empty as I got them late in the season. Hopefully I find better next year unless I can find 100% peat bales ,I remember buying 300ltr bales of Irish peat 25 at a time setting up the garden at Crooksbury and lorry loads of mushroom compost and the same of manure ,I bet the EU banned poop like everything else that actually had some value in the garden . Pleased with our new half tunnel greenhouse ,for a couple of years we rigged up a 4 x 2 m "tent " in clear tarp at the back of the house to keep off the rain after having lost everything 2 years running with late blight but walking along it in the morning you got soaked as the angle had to be pretty steep so it could be attached from the house to the fence and you rubbed along it once the toms in their hanging baskets grew. It did it's job so this year we bought 5 metal arches from Temu ( including a picture of an arch ! Luckily this was free ,yes I was temu'd ) and put up a 6 x 3 m clear tarp .It's brilliant we will leave it up year round and store stuff out of the rain .We put up stainless hooks and attached a rope running through the tarp rings and it's pretty strong .
  3. No we are few now not sure if Newts still going but there's few going from the start .I pop over to Elton's car site now and again but I think driving is behind me now unless I can find a cheap non existent zundapp and sidecar to relive my yooof ,they are rarer than hens teeth I have never seen another combo since I sold mine!
  4. I don't know but going through the feedback about the compost on Wickes I am not the only person losing tomatoes using it : Wickes Peat Free Multi-Purpose Compost - 50L | Wickes.co.uk https://share.google/N2Qp6B9v45ile2MfK The green zelouts dont seem to realise in most places peat is being laid down almost as fast as it's being excavated now .The Holes left behind can be far more beneficial than the bog it's from (fishing (wink) I will get peat bales next year but even that is being changed ,the local tree grower can only get it at a decent price from Lithuania and that's now mixed with 25% tree mass (cannot hold water and needs tons of nitrogen as rotting tree pulp uses it all up) You can see the crap in this stuff it's definitely pulped hay and a fraction of sedge peat ,water goes straight through it and it dries out in a day ,the rootball shrinks in the hanging baskets and the water bypasses it and comes straight out the drainage holes .I resort to using 500ml plastic cups frozen and put in twice a day .The water then slowly permeates the compost rather than being diverted .The pots are not so bad each one is a builders bucket with a few holes 2 inches above the bottom and the bucket itself sitting in a 4 inch deep tray full of water ,the roots can be seen coming out the holes to drink .
  5. I am still here ,been busy in the garden ,moaning the compost I bought has killed everything it's touched (poxy peat free crap) but on a new tablet and the layout is different so don't see the AN link that used to be first in line . Lovely someone misses me ,thanks for that ,Dave
  6. Sorry to hear this another AN stalwart gone
  7. AH got you ,looks like we have more in common than I thought lol Not my type of music but I see the reference now .my grandson voice has changed so more gruffer ,thinking about it sounds like boys going through puberty which I guess is what's happening in 'his' case .hopefully there's no regrets down the line once the bottom lots changed out . Life's strange lol Good luck to your grandson
  8. When it gets to number 1 I can proudly say I partly know somebody who partly knows somebody related to the singer . Little confused over "he's being hailed the next Adele" isn't Adele a girl ? Or is he like my granddaughter who now is almost my grandson (a bit more nature destruction and shims there) I am as confused as youth are today .I sang in the the Royal Albert Hall when I was 14? Not so much confusion back them lol AH I did get confused you are the grandfather ,nothing wrong with pride Googling shows Adele was born a girl are you related to the beegees I can't see the route to Adele ? Forgive my thickness I was born with double the amount than normal . Not deliberately being rude but why Adele and not cliff Richard or Tom Jones ? ( It's going to be obvious I know but I didn't spot it)
  9. Probably some wheeze by starmer offering free tickets to any Moslems joining up
  10. Seems the old timers are dead or half dead .I was very poorly on that damned Metformin and hardly left the house for a year (thinking about it was over two years) (yes if I went out I had plastic pants but found not eating the day before helped most) I got off those Then I had (or was happening all the time)problems with Warfarin ,they worked fine but you bruised so easily so they did thin the blood! But I couldnt go to the constant almost weekly tests at £30 guide a shot as for my early problem I could only go by taxi so I got prescribed a lesser drug rivaroxiban ,no idea if they work there's no tests to see if they are you just accept they are . Then to confuse the symptoms I had severe pain in my muscles and joints and thought about Sportman and his problems with Statins I asked the doc for alternatives and started to try every bloody statin out there rather than just except with me statin = pain (extreme pain like someone pushing their knuckles into you ) .must have been 5 or 6 types I started on it got pains ,came off them after a week they went away but to make sure it was them and not my head repeated it more than once so after a year then doc finally relented and prescribed something else and have almost been pain free since I get more aches than pains now due to laziness and occasional effort for a few hours at a time now the big shiny yellow ball is back. I will wander down the river to get my disappointment there's nothing but trout and streamer weed unfortunately My best stretch was sold and the old owner moved and I have no idea who owns it now ,not worth finding out even for the £7 or whatever it is to look it's so neglected there's hardly 10 yards of gap to chuck in a bread fly . The other stretches were decimated by cormerants I visited several times last year (with several bog rolls wet wipes and a change of dress)and only caught trout and saw crayfish so I guess my fishings days are over aswell . As cleverer people have said doctors don't prescribe 100% great drugs they simply treat the side effects of problems and introduce more ,and no-one ever mentions if that handful of drugs you just took are mixing up more drugs in your stomach making it all worse ,you just hope the drugs side effects are less than the medical problems side effects your taking them for . My biggest fear is prostrate cancer I had the high bps for years and am on two drugs to shrink the prostrate (they do little!) all the consultant wants to do is scrape the inside of my eurethra but I want the gland removed completely and he refuses scraping will never stop cancer he wants to fix the side effects not the potential problem .
  11. I wouldn't trust chatgpt to do anything ,it just trawls the net and hopes any answers are factual as it cannot do anything other than that ,if 50% or more says it's right then it will say that's fact even if it's not .I asked it what the first intrepid reel was ,it was wrong because it's not AI it's a net trawler I entered what was the first k p morritt reel ,it failed to do anything because I haven't put the answer out there for it to use .It's nothing more than a search engine that hopes to provide what your looking for .If it fails to answer or gives the wrong answer it's not smart or AI it's broken or in human terms lying no matter how it replied. You can wrap a turd in shiny gold paper but when you open it it's still a turd
  12. Can't say I have ever done more than a quick paddle in warm water and some of my tackle is ancient . I don't like sprays it could taint the reel so you taint your bait when you use your reel .Not sure about bicarb it's alkaline as is salt water so it's not countering the salt and I know nothing counters bait orders even febreze is in fear of them Plastic reels are pretty immune ,chrome is attacked from behind and stainless depends on the type and quality of stainless so if salt water doesn't get inside to Ali components reels are pretty robust to the elements .Sand is your enemy especially if it finds grease to hide in .
  13. Brilliant it's nice when you can fix something Rather than chucking it .There's replacements out there but you need the time and the exact search term to find them .Some Chinese company will be knocking them out by the million for something totally unrelated you just have to use the phrase to describe them like they are using . I was looking for for something or other for months without success using searches for what I thought it was called then Spotted something very similar on a web page image search and searched what they called it and there it was ,cant remember what it was I spend many hours looking for something I need like a plug that goes a different angle than the norm for what I am trying to make and am puzzled why it's only me looking for it ! AH I remember I have been experimenting using a 18650 welding machine trying to turn it into a jewellery welder but needed to make a new finer annode I I made one from a Tig welder head with a 1mm tungsten rod but needed to make the output leads removable as the fitted ones were soldered to the PCB .Looked for hours for some sort of chassis connector that could take 8 guage wire without success nothing I found could handle the amps then it was there under my nose the fitting used for welders (told you it was under my nose) so have bought a set from AliExpress and waiting for them to arrive I was going through page after page of connectors but they didn't pop up using the search terms I was using DOH
