As I fish rivers for mainly barbel and chub and as the rivers will be closing in a few months I am thinking of buying next seasons baits in advanced online.

Do you think it is worth spending a few quid ahead of the season ?

I fish mainly with pellets,boilies,pastes along with worms, sweetcorn and a few others.

What would you do ?

The only concievable reason for doing so would be if you could save a great deal of money by buying so far in advance and presumably in bulk.
However if you do so you are left with issues of storage and freshness.
Personally I wouldn't bother as bait is not a huge expense and is fairly readily obtainable from a variety of sources.

If you have a bait freezer then yes it can be worth it doing it now.

I dont have a bait freezer at the moment, but when I did I used to buy a sack each of parti-blend/hemp/wheat. Cook it al over a few late/close season weekends and bag up in varying ammounts ready for either close season pre-baiting or early season use.

This then meant that the task of bait preparation was simplified when the new season came around and my time could be spent visiting the water fish spotting and pre-baiting instead.

All bait freezes and lasts well apart from worms and casters with the added bonus that bait can be enhanced with the additions of colours, flavours and additives/coatings. The freezing/deforsting of flavoured baits improves it no end, and will also give your bait an edge for those hard days. Bolies and pastes again freeze well. Pellets, probably best to get these closer to the season start as Alan says, best for freshness and storage.
