Today (sunday) A friend and I ventured onto the local canal to flick our string at the water and see what we could pull out.
we'd set up for approx 9:00 am it was chilly and quite windy. my friend on red maggot, and myself on red and whites and worm. There where a couple of guys further up from us on poles and during our setting up could see they weren't having much luck. Within the first half hour I had my first bite and pulled out a ruffe. two hours on and no more fish to be seen. the wind was picking up and it had tried to rain. another half hour and no more fish , but the wind became a gale, my friends brolly cover was suddenly torn from its spokes and she only just managed to save in hope of repairing it back home. there where literally waves down the canal, it looked more like the sea. So we abandoned ship (so to speak) and started to pack up. I had one backing shot to remove from my line which was near the end of my rod. I had the rod end in my hand the butt on the ground and my rod tip just broke in my hand as though it where made of biscuit (gutted) -------------------- fat, stupid hobbit.

If you think you had a bad day, just imagine how that ruffe felt!

I would imagine the ruff felt rather rough!
Frodo, I broke the tip of a Drennan rod. They supplied me with a replacement, for one third of the cost of a new rod. Hopefully your rod's manufacturer will be just as nice. Me? One excellent Salter Electro scales drowned today. You'd think they would make the blessed things atleast water resistant since anglers go beside and onto the water. Like Frodo we had a right hoolie hossing across the water today, quite exciting. Was out on the boat, piking, sees some folk trying to paddle into a gale of wind and offered them a pluck. No probs, only at slow speed the waves were washing into my boat. Had I not being towing I could have blasted into it and kept dry. Wasn't till I got home that I realised the scales were drowned, grrrrr. Still, the fishing was pretty good. Nine pike, biggest 17 pounds in six hours. No fight though, right limp willies! Came alongside with barely a wiggle. Great day though! -------------------- PETER
