However, the uk cod quota:

Found a parliament discussion on the under tens web who mainly fish off rye and hastings site posted up by Leon. I wasn't aware that the cod quota at the top end of the channel is owned 70% (for the use of a better word, controlled) by the fish producer organisation based in................................... cornwall. Further there was a discussion previous where the quota had been increased and the underten guys were under the impression that they would be allowed inroad into more of this stock, a reversal of the split, 70-30. Wrong, there was a subsequent meeting with the producers organisation who emphaticlly threw it out. 'they are our fish and you cant have them' attitude. This overten dictatership do not even fish this water, all they do is sell the rights, no doubt at a healthy profit. The locals do however. So you could not make this sinario up. Cornwall owns the right to these fish as discussed by a welshman in parliament controlling and denying the local fishermen a resonable living. dry.gif

Free unrestricted fishing at Weymouth harbour, unlike Christchurch RSA debarcle.

Ban the waste of space and money mcz, project. Check out the failed ntz at Lundy.

Shame on the A T, E A, NAC, eel huggers for un-neccesary banning of rsa home made jellied eels.

the uk has less than 10% of the quota for the eastern channel , area V11d, the French have got most of the remainder.

What stops the under 10s earning a living from cod is not really the split between them and the POs, although that could be tinkered with. Its the lack of overall quota, 120 tons last year, 150 tons this year meaning the cod fishery generally gets closed a couple of months into the year. In theory good for fish stocks except you got the southern RSA fleet, charters and private boat owners, not subject to any quotas, hammering the improving stock throughout the year, taking a multiple of the uk quota

I am aware of the french quota in the channel, it's lots. Even they were whinging how hard done by they are this year, remember? However you don't have shares with the company down cornwall by any chance, biggrin.gif , tinkering, if it was reversed as what the undertens thought they was getting at one stage, they indeed would have a living. Are you happy with a cornish company owning the south coast cod quota stock?

No i can't accept the rsa taking the uk quota and more, there has been no evidance to support that within the bigger picture that they are clearing out the stock. Using your words, the rsa have been 'hammering' the codling showing both in the north sea and also the channel unrivelled by commercial for the last three years, do you see any downturn of the stock? due to that. Quite the reverse, in particular i hear talk of being able to walk across the channel being used regarding an increase in the take of the codling stocks. No, in practice it has been absolutly brilliant for the stock for the last two-three years. I do hope enough of them can remain on the ground for the forseeable future for the benifit of all. Do you wish to see them taken now or do you think it would be prudent for enough of them to remain to get a lot bigger and to increase the beeding stock at the same time? Or do you think the rsa aught to be banned and an increase to the commercial under tens with no change for the armchair fishermen, speculators.? Can you provide evidence of the rsa overfishing this stock. i don't think you can. Comment on the what i have posted on another topic below, your most welcome.

Twice or three times a month i'm wrecking, quite a prolific angler and thats a lot of fish you may ask. Not true, out of a years wrecking three or four times a year the wind, tide and the fish are feeding to enable the boat to have a brilliant fin fish session. The remainder of the trips the catch is in single figures or it is a conger trip or on a reef where most if not all are released. However when it's pollacking or cod fishing in a depth of over 50m the fish cannot really go back, nearly all of the fish are no longer juvenile, so no waste there. That said again it's very few and far between when a really good trip happens, none of it is wasted so personally i don't have a problem with that. Top end of the channel the water is relativly shallow so a good many fish are let go. After many years of this type of angling i have yet to have a barren season so the argument that the wrecks are being fished out by anglers is a bit weak to say the least. Still the men in the suits in an office somewhere will say differently all because someone has said so and they wish to beleive it is true.
