I doubt if a true goldfish could reach more than 5-6lb, however koi are quite capable of reaching 3ft plus which would put their weight easily at 12lb plus. What your friend might have seen is a gold coloured koi. it would look very much like a monster goldfish

This has got nothing to do with fishing, but...
A week ago I got an email purporting to be from my Broadband suppliers (Virgin) telling me my computer had been infiltrated and was sending out spam emails in vast numbers. It invited me to click on a zipped file that would sort it out.
Being a bit naive I did just that...and managed to success in planting a virus known as MyDoon in my computer.
After some expensive premium rate phone calls with an IT bloke I managed to eradicate it and get the computer up and running again.
But...
Wouldn't you just like to meet the geeks who plant viruses, face to face. I promise you that if I meant one he would be finding himself a new hobby.

fenboy - you need to run a good anti-virus program and keep it updated. W32/Mydoom has been kicking around the internet since January of 2004 so pretty much any AV program should have caught it for you when you tried to open it and if you are set to scan inbound email, would have alerted you when the email arrived.
