everything is cheap copies of the original design but the price only reflects the name on the front .
the main factor is construction the insides of them all cost pennies ,balance cost against reliability and decide if its worth chucking a £6.99 (or whatever) alarm away every year once it breaks down after the warrenty is up or spending £69.99 and maybe doing the same thing if the name on the front hasent the advantage of a longer life as better construction or the name purely to attract suckers who will chuck the named one away once the next model comes on the market.
i would stump for the cheapy myself i had expensive "cutting technology" "designed by robots" daiwa sensitrons, unfortunatly these designing robots didnt understand rain and they broke down far more than the cheapy ones they relaced
expensive versions do nothing more than the cheap ones ,a fish runs the alarm bleeps etc
sorry i havent answered your question but you will get several versions of replies :

1) commited "name" users who will only use their particular "name" because in their eyes it makes them (the user) better than others who dont.

2) people who maybe use "name" alarms who regret buying them as their crap but hate to admit it and would never tell you so.

3) people who pretend they have the "name" versions and if spotted their using their backups as they fogot the "good" ones

4) people such as me who keep their crap alarms because they cannot afford new ones

5)alarms

I've never heard of them< i'm afraid, Lee.

If you want inexpensive, ultra-reliable alarms then I'd strongly recommend the ones from British manufacturer, Good Fishing.

I have had my Fox Microns for the last I don't know how many years. Apart from a couple of batteries they have continued to perform excelently. Whilst I am laying into yet another fish, my mate is still figuring out whether he has a run, drop back or just a low battery warning.
I would say stick to the cheapest of the main brands.
Do I get a letter of the month for mentioning Fox or should I leave that for the angling press?

In case some don't follow the link I posted above, Good Fishing Alarms start at £16.95 and what's more the price includes postage! This is for the GFv which, unlike the more expensive Fox equivalent, has variable tone as well as variable volume. It also takes standard 9 volt batteries.

I've used Good Fishing Alarms for many years. They're ultra-reliable and British made, and you buy them direct from the manufacturer. If only I got commission for recommending them!

I've got reasonably expensive buzzers (Fox STR's). The main advantage for me is being able to turn them right down at night, whilst having the remote receiver right next to my ear.

During the day, I don't need this facility.

I suppose it depends on what kind of fishing you're doing.

I can endorse what Steve says. Good Fishing alarms are totally reliable. I've had a couple for many years (GF1, from memory), and they've never missed a beat.

Elton, I suspect that this facility is available with most remotes, whatever the make. It certainly is with my Good Fishing alarms.

Steve,

ISTR you had about 15 miles of cables when I last saw you with a buzzer set up. Mine are wireless :D
