Hi everyone
I had a couple of out of date (new versions available) programs 1 anti virus 1 malware etc. . They would not not update via thier own website updates, I kept getting errors appear saying delete old program install new. However this did not happen, tried to delete through uninstall (vista) not having it at all,got bit frustrated left it tried again etc. Nope not having it. Any how fiddling about came across website for IOBIT this has an uninstall application similar to normal uninstall version but with a hardcore type remove bit. It works so if anyone having trouble removing bits of old program I would recommend as is FREE and worked for me :)

Klaus
Ps cannot vouch for how it works but my laptop seems to have gone back to almost full speed without errors

Good information.

I'll suggest another thing you might want to do. Its pretty much my first "fix" when a microsoft OS starts doing odd one-off things. I've used it since Windows 2000 and am still using it with Windows 7 (although it is not needed as often as with Vista).

Open a command window (start>run>cmd) and when the window opens, key in chkdsk /f (note the space between chkdsk and /f) then press ENTER. When you get the message the job can't be done right now, answer Yes to doing it at next reboot then reboot.

It will take a few minutes to complete and will then reboot the PC again.
