We
all have our little moans from time to time, but the truth of the matter is that anglers
need the tackle trade as much as the tackle trade needs anglers. The end of the traditional closed season can have quite a big impact on trade. Many anglers who frequent shops find they have no need to go shopping for bait. With the rods hanging up in the garage, the attention is often turned towards such things as gardening, paying the spouse some attention and even DIY! This year, we, as anglers, have had our movements severely restricted by the terrible Foot & Mouth outbreak. Many anglers are staying at home at a time when they are usually fishing like mad, getting as many sessions in as they can before the rivers get their three month break. However, some good could come of this..... Think about how much you save when you are not fishing. How much would you have spent on bait? Food? Fuel? Bits and pieces in the tackle shop? The list of possible expenditure could go on for miles! Now think about all the times you've wished for new tackle. A quality rod, maybe? Or a super-smooth reel? Perhaps you've wanted to try braid for a while, but didn't like the price? An angling holiday? Or even a new branch of angling? Again, the list goes on.... NOW COULD BE THE PERFECT TIME TO TREAT YOURSELF! With this in mind, we've contacted a few companies and offered a free plug on this page for any offers, ideas or news that they may have. This offer has been extended to anyone with any kind of business relating to angling in the UK, whether they are based in the UK or not. As long as UK anglers can get their products, that's all we need to give them a plug. If you're in business and would like to be included, email us details of your offer or news. So, don't sit back, give something new a try, or treat yourself....and please remember to mention Anglers' Net if you contact any company with this in mind. Take a look at the ideas forming below. Self-catering accommodation, Camping and our Fishing lakes. There We do have some animals on site but are taking all the necessary precautions disinfectant, etc. The only exception to this is if a visitor is coming from a Commercial Farm. Keep Tying! I would be grateful if you could remind the fly fishing anglers that with so many waters closed they could maybe tie up a few more patterns for when the light goes to green again for angling. We have a very large choice of materials and tools at competitive prices on our website plus thousands of very high quality trout flies tied for us by our own fly dressers at very competitive prices. In addition, we are introducing many new patterns of trout fly this season including sparklers, goldhead sparklers, sight bob killers (absolute must if using a sight bob) flexi buzzers, woven nymphs etc. Many are now in stock but not yet shown on our website which is being extended at the moment to take account of the new products. If anyone wants details of these new flies then they can contact the shop on 01539 724867 or e mail us at fish@carlsons.co.uk Bob Carlson |

Try Saltwater I would suggest to the fresh water fraternity to maybe giving sea a try while this ban applies. If anyone has never tried fishing with gills or jellies, they ought to give it a go as there is some very good Pollack fishing at the moment and you are in with a good chance of breaking a record or two! All the best and keep up the good work. Derek, |
