ACS Tournaments NE Regionals Held in Baldwinsville NY

Bartlesville OK – Forty-one teams of professional carp anglers tamed the Seneca River May 14-17 by catching and releasing an astounding 36,282 pounds – or 18 tons – of carp during the non-stop 50-hour 2008 ACS Tournaments Northeast Regionals in Baldwinsville, New York.  This year’s total surpasses the unprecedented 28,544 pounds of carp captured during ACST’s inaugural tournament held on the Seneca River last year.

Teams representing Romania, Hungary, Poland, Canada, England and nine U.S. states – Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, North Carolina and Illinois – participated in the competition.

It was a triple-crown for Scott Townson of Hurst, Texas and teammate Tim Creque of Cincinnati, Ohio who triumphed with a first-place grand prize of $3,000 landing 172 common carp for a total weight of 2,839 pounds 11 ounces.  The duo took home an additional $3,000 for their 39 pound 3 ounce common carp which earned them the coveted Big Fish bonus prize as well as the Big Four award for a cumulative tournament weight of 134 pounds 4 ounces.

Second place was awarded to Jason Long and Dan Kelsey of Batavia, New York with third place going to last year’s second-place winners Tom Brooks and Colin Peters of Greensboro, North Carolina.

Second-year competitors brothers Joe and Tony Saraceni ranked 16th in the competition and were rewarded with the newly created local team prize of $1,000.  Joe Saraceni is the mayor of the Village of Baldwinsville.

“We had high expectations of the Seneca River this year,” said David Moore, ACS Tournaments Director.  “Last year the river produced some extraordinary numbers of fish, and this year was even more exceptional.  The anglers really had to prove themselves in technique and stamina, and they did.”

“We’re privileged to bring tournaments to Baldwinsville.  Our anglers love it here, and the community extends hospitality that is incomparable.  We have a tremendous respect for the amount of work and effort the local host committee, volunteers and sponsors put forth to host our tournament.  We’re grateful for everyone’s role in making this year a huge success.”

The historic Red Mill Inn in downtown Baldwinsville served as a major sponsor and tournament headquarters.  The tournament course followed the Seneca River downstream from the Red Mill Inn toward the Onondaga Lake outlet near and around Long Branch Park, the Wegmans Good Dog Park and Mud Lock just 4.9 miles away.  Competitors will fish non-stop for fifty consecutive hours.

The competition will return for the third year May 13-16, 2009.
