Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st October, 2007 a Junior Angling Open Day is to be held at Bridge of Earn, Perthshire, hosted by Nomad UK, Unit 4 Old Mill industrial Estate, Edinburgh Road, Bridge of Earn.

Allan Bithell, a leading fly tyer from Yorkshire, will be present giving Fly tying lessons to young angler’s interested in learning or improving their skills and techniques in tying.

Members of the highly successful Scottish Junior Still Water Team will also be present to pass on tips and encouragement to those interested in competition fishing.

Instructors and pupils from rapidly expanding Angling For Youth Development programme will be at the event to promote their organisation and the work it is undertaking within schools and the community.  The AFYD instructional team will be offering fly casting instruction to attendees and will also be present at the Fife Fieldsports Fishery at Burntisland, Fife, to assist and advise young people who wish to attend there.

This free event is open to anyone to attend and participate in and AFYD members would be delighted to discuss their work in furthering the development of youth angling in Scotland.

AFYD are actively recruiting new instructors to develop their programmes further and would welcome contact from anyone wishing to become involved in their organisation or from young people interested in taking up or improving their angling.

AFYD is looking to establish 10 new schemes over the next 2 years in Tayside and Fife and will be launching the first of these in January 2007 in Arbroath where the project is being lead by Tayside Fire and Rescue.
