General

A Cold week with water temperatures dropping to 3.8 deg, most pleasure anglers lasting several hours and only a few managing to stay for their full sessions due to cold ambient temperatures, those stopping later finding catches coming on well at dusk also those season ticket holder choosing before dawn having the most catches.  Some successes on Waggler, Pole, Tip and Ledger  with lighter tackle for the colder water temperatures, fish topping before dawn on all lakes so still feeding.

Carp well shoaled together  with best out 14lb 2oz, Ide, Perch, Roach and Rudd and Bream best to 4lb 9oz  and Skimmers all caught in colder conditions this week.

Maggot, Pinkies, pellet have all caught as well as sweetcorn all as hook baits worm taking bigger perch. Feed little only a couple of pellets or maggots and groundbait as a cloud enhancer and sensor with top of the water clearing now to 2 foot.  Fish have moved of shelves except in sunny conditions and are best targeted 6 to 8 meters out or back of far banks as they are keeping to the warmest thermals in the water.

All lakes have had various success depending on choice of pegs to wind conditions with wind this week swinging from a very cold Northerly around to westerly and both Southerly and South westerly in a week with strengths varying from 23 mph down to 3 mph.

Saturday night was the coldest this week with -5 deg registered at Angel, and sleet and snow both Friday and Saturday, which settled and dropped water temperature.

Bowes, Lookout and Bassetts all have had anglers catching however much slower with the drop in temperature anglers really need to be set up for the extreme weather conditions we have experienced this week.

Coaching is advised as one to one with such extreme cold conditions to help develop skills in winter angling.

Christmas gift ideas are:- season tickets, membership, coaching vouchers, gift vouchers or tackle.
