Jimmy used pole and chopped worm and caster with red maggot. Some good large bream came out across the lake today.
We have never dropped water temperatures so fast even in winter as we have these last four days!

Interesting night as fish started to feed after spawning for five days, NE wind had a very cold chill to it, well done Martin.
Wed evening we had 19 deg water temp however by Thursday morning we dropped to 16 deg and dropped again by Friday morning to 12 deg after 2 cold nights, cold North winds and cold rain combined with day temperatures of 7 to 9 deg produced the drops. However, with such dramatic water temperature drops you need to be very careful on feeding, choose to feed a little but and not so often so you do not feed off the fish in your swim just keep the fish there by little and now and then feeding. At these water temperatures you are almost back into winter baits of maggot, worm, pellet and sweetcorn etc as fish do not like such a dramatic change downwards in the water temperature.
Carp started spawning on Saturday at 9 pm linking to moon phases and water temperatures above 18 deg and spawned until Wed afternoon. So now, the fish are starting to feed again to gain condition post spawning. All silver fish and carp are finished spawning and just tench yet to spawn.

Bait tips:- soak angel feed pellets till quite wet allow to soak for 10 mins until sloppy, use in pole cup instead of groundbait, the colour and flavour of the angel fishmeal feed pellet when soaked clouds on the way down and when settled on the bottom is a great attractant for carp and bream.
Alternatively using a cage feeder just dampen the pellets so they expand and try adding casters to make a great attractant to bring fish into your swim.
On the hook try banding or hair rigging angel red carp pellets to bring in some good carp. Try soft hooker pellets either fishmeal to match angels fishmeal feed pellets or super g soft hookers to match angels betaine feed pellets. Maggot doubles to multiples on maggot clips, caster and worm, meat cubed or punched, mussel, and prawn all catching good fish. Paste made out of angel feed pellets for the pole works a treat.
Lookout
Some excellent numbers and quality of fish caught even though carp were spawning from last Sat eve to Wed afternoon, tench came on to spawning but stopped when water temperatures dropped over 3 deg overnight on Wednesday evening. Then water temperatures continued to drop to 12 deg on Sunday. Norman Eden continues his great catch rate on his half day sessions with over 60 fish caught. Been a busy week with silver and tench catching in high numbers and carp starting to feed after spawning.

Carp switched back on to feed post spawning on Wed afternoon and carp were well spread out on the lake for the evening match w
ith 41lb 10oz, taking the winning spot. Water temperature dropped by 3 deg on Wed eve together with cold NE winds then torrential rain Friday eve and Saturday morning combined with 9 deg ambient day temperatures took water temperatures down to 12 deg, this made for angling sessions very uncomfortable and very hard to get good presentation.
Best fish out was a post spawned female of 28lb 4oz a mirror with several scales missing after spawning through thrashing on the hard surfaces to discharge her eggs, two good sized doubles were caught on pole in the match on Wed evening.
Bassetts
Great pond with some excellent sized silvers in it and some double figured carp we use this as our growth pond and make sure every fish is healthy for 2 years prior to moving them to the other ponds. This week has seen it busy with the winds as it is the most sheltered pond, again be careful with quantity of feed going in with the water temperatures plummeting this week, as you will feed of the fish. Go back to winter hook baits of maggot, worm , caster pellet, sweetcorn for good catches in these water temperatures.
Norman and Chris Eden took over 60 fish each on Monday for their half day sessions.
