Carp and silvers back on feeding now they are used to the big water temperature drop

Next weeks Wednesdays match is on Lookout Island

General
Weather warmed water temperatures this week from 5.1 deg on Monday (coldest for October water temperature since we put water in) to Friday’s water temperature of 8.3 deg.

This increase in water temperature has had a big difference on catch rates, Wednesdays match on Bowes was won with 63lb 3oz of carp, the increase also has seen some stunning individual fish caught with a 2lb 7oz perch, large Rudd, Roach, Ide and Orfe also lots of Crucians over 1lb 8oz to 2lb 6oz a stunner, Tench also feeding well.

The fish are feeding up for winter and have shoaled tighter when water temperatures are colder. So it is imperative to walk the banks to choose your peg where fish are shoaled to get good catch rates.

Make sure you have several methods to choose from when fishing in the colder weather, pole, float, bomb, and feeder being the best choices. Keep several swims lightly fed so when the shoal moves of you have other options to fish from.

Lookout
This increase in water temperature has had a big difference on catch rates, some stunning individual fish caught with a 2lb 7oz perch, large Rudd, Roach, bream, skimmers, Ide and Orfe also lots of Crucians over 1lb 8oz to a 2lb 6oz a stunner, Tench also feeding well and getting caught to 6lb 3oz, carp ghosties and koi to 8lb 10oz also being caught.

At the moment carp are very tight to the back reeds and I mean very tight, start casting so you land high up in the water then try down to about 2 or 3 ft, but you will need to keep trying to find the shoal.

Silvers can be caught tight in, but also about 10ft from the reeds both at the back bank as well as in front of the reeds by the pegs.

Try up in the water for rudd, maggots doing well for these, or go down on the bottom for skimmers and bream and pick up the others bottom feeding but don’t overfeed just keep it going in at a trickle about every 5 mins.

Bowes
Great weight out on Wednesdays match of 63lb 3oz all carp and mainly on conker (angels 10mm banded pellet, then covered in soaked angels 3mm pellet turned into a paste, which also acts as a groundbait in colder conditions to attract the shoals) try bomb or feeder for this method. Also some stunning silvers have been coming out especially on pole and waggler using multiple maggots on the hook, and on pole and waggler. You do need to use watercraft to choose your peg as the fish are well shoaled, and you need to be very observant to work out where the shoals are.

Good hook baits are maggot, soft hookers, expanders, worm, caster, and sweet corn.

Good feed (use sparingly) angel pellets, maggots, chopped worm, caster, and very small amount of groundbait.

Bassetts
Fish this methodically and some great catches are forthcoming, carp from 2lb to 5lb have been caught, Orfe to 3lb 14oz as well as skimmers, rudd, roach, tench and an exceptional sized gudgeon.

Great for pole and waggler and use maggots, worm, caster, soft hookers, sweet corn on the hook feed maggots, micro angel pellets, chopped worm and caster.

Angling Coaching
Even in these colder water temperatures new anglers have been catching, but if you are booking up make sure you have lots of thermal layers of clothes on, as well as good thermal socks.
