General

Another wet cold and windy week has not deterred anglers who are keen to try out winter tactics by trying out pole, feeder, waggler and ledger. I would advise always to bring your tip rod as a good back up for all weather conditions and some remarkable catches of good specimen fish.

Some good results have been produced  with a high 20/30lb coming out together with good doubles and smaller also being taken on Bowes.   On Lookout and Bassetts changing tactics, bait  and targeting species specific has also been successful. Water now starting to clear down to 10 inches as water temperatures drop and sunlight lessens making plankton etc die off for winter.

High winds are producing warmer thermals up in the water with surface and bottom being up to 1 deg colder than middle layer.

Bowes

Saturday on in wet and windy conditions  Peg 3 Brian Hall using a  maggot feeder  with maggot on the hook had a great session catching 25 carp  all of good calibre. Brian’s catches comprising 4 at 10lb,  5 at 8lb,  all rest 4lb plus, the first 2 hours Brian did not catch he persevered and  then this changed to a steady catch rate.

Some good very high weight carp to high 20s have been taken with big carp anglers settling down in their bivies to keep the weather out.

Lookout

Targeting tight shoals has proved successful with Dave Hodgson on Sunday managing to get both carp and bream with some other silvers to win the match on peg 26.

Anglers using the tip to far bank with both groundbait and maggot feeders doing well and best hook bait is maggot.

Fish are still feeding though lighter tackle for winter water temperatures now needed, as is the use of watercraft for identifying the best pegs to fish from. A windy wet week has seen fish jumping out of the water at dawn and topping well looking for seeds and floating berries blown in.

Some lovely Ide and crucians being caught to good 2lb plus, ghosties and carp feeding early on, with silvers later on in day.

Bassetts

Lots feeding at dawn with topping fish and good movement early on, shorter daylight getting fish started moving and shoals of skimmers and carp can be seen also very early, some nice carp out this week and tench slowing feeding down. Remarkably some good catches in students learning to fish even in the inclement weather conditions well done.
