Week in General

A week in which winter arrived with winds; rain also more frosts and the first snow, which lay for an hour early Saturday Morning. Water temperatures dropped and yet we had fish topping before sunrise on several days. I would advise everyone to view the sunrises some spectacular ones at this time of year and some excellent sunsets.

Anglers are advised to wrap up in many layers and good footwear and thermals very much advised.  Do not forget gloves as well keep warm all over and you can catch fish, as you are comfortable.
Depending on the time of day early mornings and late evenings are very much the times to be catching steadily. Over night the odd fish is being caught however because the water is clearing on the top foot if it is bright or sunny then difficulty will occur on day catches unless using a black groundbait to form clouds in the water.

Lookout and Bassetts

Ide, Skimmers, Perch, carp have been caught, also some Rudd and roach. With the drop below six deg in water temperature you must be hardly feeding may be 3 x 3mm pellets or just three or four maggots with 3mm hair rigged pellet being the most successful on the hook, followed by maggot, worm, and caster. Patience is needed and much lighter tackle hook size of 18 recommended in these water temperatures.  I do advise you also come into reception every couple of hours for soup or something hot to get the blood circulating in hands and feet.

Coaching still ongoing but obviously a lot more in the classroom and less time on the bankside.
Good to develop knowledge and learn shotting patterns, making up rigs, developing knowledge on floats, different methods etc

Bowes

Friday morning was not only a spectacular sunrise but for the previous hour the carp large and small were jumping out of the water after insects, you would have thought a predator was chasing them. This is the time when the tip or ledgering comes into its own with several good carp being caught in pristine condition to 19lb; again, patience is required with water temperatures of 4.2 deg and scale down the terminal tackle. Hair rigged pellet, worm, sweetcorn also sweetcorn shells, maggot and caster on the hook have proved successful.
