Angling Trust news release

Former World Champion Tom Pickering, Manager of the Angling Trust Preston Innovations England Feeder Team is delighted to announce the squad for the 2012 World Feeder Championships to be held at the Water Sports Centre, Ghent, Belgium on 7th/8th July.

The squad will be;  Steve Ringer, Phil Ringer, Mick Vials, Dean Barlow, Darren Cox, Tom Pickering (Manager), Glenn Lawrence and Adam Wakelin (Coaches).

The rowing course at the Water Sports Centre in Ghent is a bream fishing venue which is a popular attraction near the centre of the city.  This year the Preston Innovations England Feeder team are hoping to beat last year’s 5th placing and bring home the medals.

Tom Pickering, said, “This year we have made one change from the 2011 line up with Phil Ringer replacing Steve Hemingray, who I would like to thank for his contribution as part of the squad last year, and hope we can call upon him again in the future.    Because the venue is only 1 hour and 20 minutes away from the Channel Tunnel it would be fantastic to see quite a few English supporters watching the World Feeder Championships in 2012.”

“This year we have a lot to look forward to, including a friendly International event  in April at the same venue in Ghent, where I will also be putting in two teams, the World team and also a team of younger anglers so that  Glenn Lawrence and I can help develop them to international standards.”

The two teams of five will be;
‘A’ Team – Steve Ringer, Phil Ringer, Mick Vials, Darren Cox and Dean Barlow.

‘B’ Team – Adam Wakelin, Rob Wootton, Kieron Rich, Adam Rooney and Alex Bones.

Dick Clegg, OBE, International Events Manager stated, “Tom has selected another strong team for Belgium, and I applaud his forward thinking in developing a pathway and an academy style programme for the future of the feeder team.    The rowing course in Ghent is no stranger to international competitions and England have fished the venue on at least two occasions when both the Juniors, and more recently the Veterans held their own World Championships there.”

“The fishing in Belgium should suit our English style of feeder fishing,  and I expect this team to make the podium in both the team and individual events.”

The Angling Trust and the England Feeder Team would like to thank Preston Innovations Ltd and Sensas for their sponsorship and continued support.

This year Tom Pickering, England Feeder Team Manager will be holding more Feeder trials in September, and further details will be announced on the Angling Trust website at www.anglingtrust.net  later in the year.
