Fishing lesson of a lifetime for Geoff

Local angler Geoff Weaver got the fishing lesson of a lifetime when he took a one to one fishing masterclass with Bob Nudd MBE at Redbridge.

Geoff, Local carpet fitter and keen angler received this fabulous gift as a Christmas present from his family. As Geoff is fishing mad, he was extremely excited at the chance of some expert tuition from Bob Nudd. As Geoff was a member at Redbridge Lakes, he chose to host this special day at his new club. As Bob had not yet had the opportunity to fish at Redbridge lakes, one of the newest yet fastest growing silver fishing lakes in the heart of Essex, he was very pleased at the chance to fish the lakes for the first time.

Bob Nudd MBE was the first English angler to win four individual world angling championships in 1990, 1991, 1994 and 1999. Nudd represented the England team at international level for more than 24 years, during which time he became arguably the best known angler in the world. The highlight of his professional career was victory in front of a home crowd at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham, in 1994.

Bob NuddNudd lives in Cambridgeshire, England, and writes monthly for Improve Your Coarse Fishing magazine. He is known as one of Britain’s greatest anglers along with John Wilson and Richard Walker. In 1991 he received the most votes ever in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award. Nudd started presenting a new TV series for Discovery Shed in March 2009. He has an MBE for services to fishing.

The masterclass started at 10:30am with Bob instructing Geoff and his oldest friend and regular fishing partner Jimmy in setting up basic rigs and various feeding techniques. Within five minutes, Geoff started to catch and from that point the fish started to flow at quite a rapid rate.

Under Bobs tuition and keen eye, Geoff caught a variety of species including some spectacular Golden Tench, Rudd, Brown Goldfish, Roach, Bream, Crucion Carp and Chubb.

After four hours of fishing, Geoff bagged an impressive 26lb, 12ozs of fish using maggot over micro pellet. Bob Nudd was extremely pleased with the choice of venue and the quality and variety of fish available to the anglers. What a fantastic fishery! commented Nudd. Once these fish mature, this fishery will absolutely explode in popularity. It was a really enjoyable day, continued Nudd. I wish I you were a little closer to me as Id be here every Saturday to fish the open matches. I look forward to coming back soon.
