The venue and date for this year’s Grand Union South Angling Club (GUSAC) Junior Angling Championships have been announced. This exciting event for all budding young anglers is being hosted by last year’s champions, the Milton Keynes Angling Association, at the city’s Peartree Bridge on the Grand Union Canal on Saturday 1 July.

To enter, anglers must be aged 17 or under on the day of the event, which is FREE to enter. The championships are being sponsored by both British Waterways, who own and manage the Grand Union Canal, and the Milton Keynes Angling Association.

John Ellis, British Waterways Fisheries & Environmental Manager, said: “There will be a good selection of tackle prizes and trophies for the winners, so we would encourage any angling club that has junior membership to enter a team. Teams should consist of four anglers.”

The Peartree Bridge venue is due to be used for the National Federation of Anglers (NFA) Junior National championships in summer 2007.

Angling clubs interested in entering teams for the GUSAC Junior Angling Championships should contact this year’s match organiser, Mr Ian Greenhood, on 01908 503587 or 07775 518866.

In addition to managing over 2,000 miles of canals and rivers, British Waterways also own a range of excellent fisheries throughout the country. If you’d like more information about angling on British Waterways’ waters, call 01908 302500 or email: enquiries.southeast@britishwaterways.co.uk.
