borwickfishing.co.uk has launched into another Summer with a terrific start for syndicate member Kevin Carr. Fishing last weekend, he had fantastic sport including a 26lb common, 24lb mirror, 18lb common and 9lb mirror in his catch. However during his session he included the fish of a lifetime taking well-known resident, Moonscale, at a whopping 38lb 3oz and a setting a new venue record by almost 2lb.
Kevin qualifies for the new competition for visiting anglers, both syndicate members and day ticket holders, announced in 2011. Any angler catching the largest fish for each species at borwickfishing.co.uk receives a certificate commemorating their catch and a £20 voucher for tackle from the on-site tackle shop. Current records for qualifying species are Carp 38lb, Pike 28lb, Wels Catfish 22lb, Grass Carp 20lb, Tench 9lb, Eel 7lb and Perch 3lb. These prizes are in addition to the bottle of ‘bubbly’ that Fishery Manager, Steve Griffiths has offered for the first 40lb fish of any species or the first 30lb Pike, Grass Carp or Catfish from the site. The fish must be verified and photographed by Jimmy White, the on-site bailiff (Ring Jimmy 07984-399637 from your mobile if you catch a qualifying fish). As fish try to build up body weight prior to spawning, Carp are putting on around 2lb a year, so “Moonie” should be over 40lb before she spawns in June, so it looks increasingly likely that he will have to get out his wallet in the next month, if anyone tempts her. With at least one species with a number of fish well over 30lb and another 3 species topping 20lb borwickfishing.co.uk offers one of the best chances of a specimen in the North.

Elsewhere on site smaller fish are feeding avidly with at least one “ton” recorded in matches already this year.
