Essex angler Kevin Carter took the biggest fish of a recent British jaunt to the Essequibo River in South America in the shape of this magnificent arapaima estimated at 260lb.

Kevin’s arapaima fell to a chunk of fish on a large circle hook to 100lb braid and put up a spectacular fight, leaping clear of the water several times. Match fisherman Kevin is more used to fishing the canal circuit around Chelmsford and beat his personal best by more than TWENTY TIMES with the beast – his previous best fish being a 12lb carp!!

ArapaimaIn fact he had never even flown before taking this trip across the ocean with a group of eight intrepid Brits who had travelled to Guyana with www.Amazon-Angler.com . The mighty fish was carefully unhooked and swam off strongly after capture.

The trip produced no less than 26 DIFFERENT SPECIES, including redtail catfish to over 90lb, plus big paraiba, flat nose, surubim and jau cats and stacks of peacock bass, vampire fish and piranha, including one fish that is being considered for a new all-tackle world record.

Amazon-Angler.com has just announced that is has secured the rights to open up a completely new stretch of the Essequibo river and is currently organising an exploratory trip there later this year – for more information email info@amazon-angler.com
