Weekly report by Marlene Mc Laughlin

Ideal conditions encourage anglers to Cashel to try out their dry fly fishing skills and much more.

Belfast’s David Patton banked one which took a dry while father and son Danny and Martin Turner (Swatragh) also new to Cashel managed one trout which took a wee black/green Montana.  John Hall (Campsie) did excellently using the hawthorn fly releasing an amazing twenty-five trout back into the lake.  Ronan Greene, Shane Irwin and Diarmuid Mc Laughlin (Dungiven) used klinkhammers to bank seven in total while Andrew Logan (Dungiven) used suspender buzzers to make his five catches.  Derry’s Paul Ford released nine beauties which took dries and suspender buzzers.  His mate, Paul Cox, while home visiting from Shrewsbury, England accompanied Paul and banked himself a trout which took a wee buzzer.  Limavady’s Danny Martin released two trout which took the wee hawthorn.  Derry’s Billy Hazlett and Paul Temple took two trout home which weighed 5lb 2ozs and released ten more. Dungiven’s Dominic Magee with his two sons Justin and Ryan had an enjoyable day using bibios and black spiders. They banked four in total but only took two trout home which weighed just over 4lb.  Derry’s Maurice Whiteman with his two sons, Stephen and Donal and his friend Kelvin Galligan did very well banking seventeen trout between them which took wee dries.  Derry’s Adrian Ford, Jimmy Mc Cay, Christy McCay and Michael Doherty all released one trout each which took assorted dries and buzzers.  Pearse Mc Gill and Pearse Doherty (Lavey and Maghera) respectively used egg flies and dries to released fifteen and eight trout in that order in one day.  Dungiven’s Mark Boyce released six trout over two short days using dries while Shaun Mc Ivor and Colin Duffy (Ballykelly) banked eight in total but only took home two each weighing a total of 7lb 3ozs.  James Kelly (Feeny) released two which fancied his yellow fritz while Michael Edwards (Antrim) managed the one on a dry.  John Hasson (Dungiven) released five lovely trout which took the f-fly while Brian O’Kane also from Dungiven released two trout which took the hare’s ear.
