Weekly report by Marlene Mc Laughlin

Quite a lot of newcomers were quite pleased at Cashel this weekend.  Rolf La Hey (Holland) released four lovely trout which took brown dries.  John Lowry (Scotland) released five which took a diawl bach and a yellow bomber.  Dr Billy Mc Cleery (Limavady) bagged two for home weighing 4lb 12ozs which were fooled on an olive dry.  Caolan Boyd (Limavady) bagged one at 2lb while Gareth Love (Limavady) banked five in total taking only three home which weighed 9lb 7ozs. Magherafelt’s Adrian Mc Kay and his 13 year old son John banked one and seven respectively using cat’s whiskers.

The Thatch Angling Group from Limavady had a fun day with Niall Murray catching heaviest trout of the day at 6lb 4ozs.  Ernie Mc Callion bagged two at 4lb 14ozs; Jason Mc Clean released one at 2.5lb.  Mark Duncan released two averaging 3lb each while Conzy Cartin banked three between 2.5 and 3lb.  Almost everyone had trout to the bank but unfortunately not everyone got them landed.  Young Zarrin Martin, Robbie Lyttle, Paddy Guyler and John Long all banked trout using assorted dries.

Terry MorrisonMembers of the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service in Derry also had a fun time bagging great trout well up to 4.5lb.  Raymond Fleming’s two trout weighed 6lb 5ozs, Terry Morrison’s two trout weighed 8lb 3ozs and Arthur Jameson bagged one at 2lb 12ozs.  Kieran Barr had one at 2lb.  These anglers used assorted nymphs and lures to make their catches. 

The Glens Community Association also had a fun day with almost thirty trout to the bank.  Willie Lowry caught the largest number of trout using buzzers and dries.  Their trout averaged 2.5lb. 

Mark Boyce (Dungiven) released five which took the wee f-fly; Billy Hazlett (Derry) banked eight in total with his two for home weighing 6lb 11ozs.  John Hasson (Dungiven) released four in a very short time which Bernard Mellon (Maghera) did very well releasing twelve on Sunday afternoon using buzzers and dries.  Magherafelt’s Allan Mc Clune released bagged one at 2lb which took an olive dry.  Magherafelt’s Francis Loane bagged two weighing 5lb 7ozs which took a suspender buzzer.  Paul Ford (Derry) also released one back into the lake.  Jason Wilson (Derry) bagged two at 4lb 7ozs and released five more which took wee hare’s ear nymphs.  Bryan McKay (Limavady) released two which took an orange fritz and an olive buzzer. 

River Licences are on sale at Cashel Trout Fishery.

We are now taking group bookings for any angling club or corporate groups interested in a fun day.  Catering facilities are available in the adjacent Cashel Fishing Lodge.
