Catch Report 7-14 May 2012 by Chay Jackson, fishery manager

Main Lake
Another great week for specimen hunters with predators and Carp to specimen sizes being landed. I’ll start with Carp and after he landed the big fourty last week Mark Slade promptly landed another nice Common of 23lb (below), Mark spotted the fish grubbing around the pads by the inlet pipe and landed the fish using a floatfished lobworm after 3 hours of painstaking stalking, Mark also landed a cracking 4lb chub using the same tactics!

Nick Blackshaw of Leicester landed a 21lb Mirror, this time from peg 1. Martin Howe of Nottingham fished the venue for the first time and landed a new personal best 22lb Mirror and a 19lb common both from peg 51. On the predator front there has been lots of Zander to 12lb being caught this week, biggest fish of the week was a 12lb specimen landed by venue regular Tony Smith of Castleford, Tony was fishing off peg 2 towards the buoy using legered dead roach, Tony also landed Zeds of 8lb 12oz and 7lb 6oz. Neil Wigall of Nuneaton also landed a nice 9lb 6oz Zed. Pike fishing has been excellent with lots of fish to 18lb being taken mainly by Zander anglers, lures are working really well especially in the bays.

On the Bream front fishing has been very slow due to spawning, however Mark Addison of Leicester did manage 6 Bream and a Tench on the feeder using dead maggot.

Boys Pit
The boys pit is fishing really well now with pole tactics accounting for decent bags of Roach, Rudd and Tench to 5lb. Graham Silvers of Loughborough landed 4 Tench to 5lb and some cracking Roach and Rudd to amass a bag of 18lb, Graham fished the pole using a combination of maggot and corn fished close to a set of pads.

Lure anglers are catching plenty of pike to 12lb with catches of 8-10 fish not uncommon.
