It’s always nice to see a new tackle shop opening on the high street, and Cheshire Bait Supplies looks to have a very bright future. Owner and experienced carp angler Andy James invited me for a look at his new venture this week and I have to say I was impressed with his ambitious proposals to become one of the biggest angling outlets in the NW.
As a fledgling operation, Cheshire Bait Supplies is currently situated within DIY store Under One Roof, but Andy confided that expansion into adjacent warehouse space is the next stage of his master plan. After viewing the available floor area, when this is accomplished, then Cheshire Baits Supplies will indeed be a serious competitor in the fishing retail sector.
Concentrating on supplying what anglers need, rather than what commission driven sales agents suggest, Andy intends to ensure his outlet caters for all aspects of angling, but without unnecessary items or products which have the ‘tackle tart’, not the angler, at heart. Andy has already secured significant trade accounts with many of the easily recognised giants of the angling world including Dynamite Baits, Pallatrax, Gardner, Korda, Trakker and ‘Bang On’ Baits, and will also supply popular baits and products by Bolton based 1toners Bait Company and Nene Valley Baits. More manufacturers and suppliers are due to come into stock soon, including the latest ranges from Nutrabaits.
Cheshire Bait Supplies has the ‘proper’ tackle shop atmosphere that some other retailers lack; piscine oil paintings by a local artist adorn the walls, it’s clean, tidy and everything is displayed where the customer can see it, so no dark corners for stock to get old and musty! Andy is quite happy to discuss the local, national and European angling scene, knows his stuff and is keen to share his knowledge with others which makes a welcome change from some shops I have visited!
Definitely one to watch in the future; when the warehouse space is utilised and projected expansion is complete, this will be the next big angling retailer!
