Country Channel News Release

Viewers of the world’s premier internet TV channel devoted to the countryside consistently watch for more than an hour- and watch at work almost as much as at home.

A survey by The Country Channel also found that globally viewers of all ages are as likely to live in the town as in rural areas. Some tune in exclusively via the channel’s Sky platform 219 but many view via both the internet and their television sets.

Interestingly they don’t watch alone, with the majority viewing alongside family and friends.

The Country Channel – www.countrychannel.tv – is a unique multi-channel web based broadcast service dedicated to local communities throughout rural locations worldwide, streaming free to view scheduled programmes and video on demand over the internet 24/7 and accessible worldwide

In four years of broadcasting it has won plaudits for its professional programming and comprehensive coverage of rural events and issues. Prime Minister David Cameron and HRH the Prince of Wales are amongst its supporters and the Oxfordshire based production team includes several experienced broadcasters.

Viewing figures for the channel are impressive with an average of 500,000 unique visits a month. The Channel is consistently outperforming its competitors and is ranked in the top 20,000 web channel viewings.

It also has its own education arm in the form of a charitable trust – Patron the Duke of Westminster- offering rural programming aimed at the younger generation

MD Paul Aitken said the survey proved the huge and wide ranging interest in the countryside that was not being fully met by mainstream broadcasters.

‘We aim to give people hours of enjoyment, a share in country life and a real understanding of what makes the British countryside such a rich and diverse place to live,’ he added.

Viewers rate the Channel’s Country Pursuits strand as the one they love to watch the most, with Country Matters – looking at issues concerning rural life- a close second.

The majority of viewers enjoy walking, shooting, gardening and visiting gardens and country houses, while fishing and bird watching are popular hobbies.
