One of the UK’s top river match experts, Dave Harrell, is to speak at the forthcoming conference on ‘Improving Coarse Fish Stocks in Rivers’ organised jointly by The Rivers Trust and The Angling Trust. The event takes place from 9am – 3pm on Saturday 9th June 2012 – Barston Lakes, Marsh House, Farm Lane, Barston, Solihull, West Midlands, B92 0LB
After the Conference delegates can enjoy a spot of free fishing at the renowned Barston Lakes.
The conference is open to all and aimed at coarse anglers, fishing clubs and riparian owners to ‘ provide inspiration and practical guidance to help secure funding and take action to improve coarse fish stocks in rivers.’
Speakers include: Mark Lloyd and Martin Salter of the Angling Trust, Dr Mark Everard on coarse fish stocks, Arlin Rickard from the Rivers Trust, Karen Twine from Hull University on the monitoring of Great Ouse barbel, a new Hugh Miles film on the award winning Avon Roach Project and presentations from the Environment Agency on fish migration and stock surveys.

“It looks like being a great event on June 9th and I would urge everyone who cares about the future of coarse fishing in our wonderful rivers to make time to attend. I will be talking about the reasons for the decline in the popularity of river fishing and look at some of the reasons for this as well as some of the threats to coarse fish stocks in our rivers. I’m sure there will be much lively debate around issues such as predation, the river close season, abstraction and low flows and I hope we can use the day to formulate some useful strategies for much needed improvements.”
