Tom Wise, MEP for the Eastern Region, has published a hard-hitting critique of the Common Fisheries Policy.

Using evidence provided by the EU’s own institutions, namely the Commission and the Court of Auditors, Tom launches a devastating attack on the environmental and economic unsustainability of a policy declared to have “failed in every respect”.

Covering issues such as maximum sustainable yield, climate change, and the adverse effects of political interference, he concludes that the CFP is encouraging practices that could see Europe’s fisheries left barren in the same way that the Newfoundland cod stocks collapsed in 1992.

A member of the European Parliament’s fisheries committee, Tom Wise was elected in 2004.
