EFTTA RELEASES EIGHT NEW LINE TEST RESULTS

Eight new monofilament lines have been tested for the accuracy of their diameters and breaking strengths by EFTTA, the European Fishing Tackle Trade Association.

Twice a year, EFTTA randomly buys monofilament samples from across the world and tests them in an independent laboratory in its innovative Line Test Project.

Once successfully tested, the lines can carry the ‘EFTTA Approved’ logo, which is recognised by anglers in Europe as a mark of quality. And it allows manufacturers to benchmark their products against competitors and helps retailers decide which lines they should stock in their shops.

EFTTA introduced the line testing programme in 2004 and has since awarded ‘EFTTA Approved’ logos to more than 90 lines. These lines have been tested in laboratory controlled conditions and indicate the correct diameter and breaking strength on their packaging.

The results are published in international consumer and trade angling magazines and websites, on the EFTTA website www.eftta.com and at EFTTEX, the European Fishing Tackle Trade Exhibition, which will take place this year from 13th to the 15th June in Fiera di Roma, Rome.

Sally Steel of EFTTA said: “The response and interest we receive to the Line Testing project is tremendous. People ask us what lines we will be testing and they are particularly interested in receiving information on lines that have the ‘EFTTA Approved’ logo.”

“It’s great to see that the consumer is finally being educated about the situation with wrong labelling on fishing lines. By checking on the EFTTA website they can make an educated choice on which line to purchase in the future.”

Last month EFTTA promoted the line testing project at the FIPO 2008 fishing show in Bologna.  Janet Doyle of EFTTA said: “Our stand had posters and banners listing the companies whose lines have passed the EFTTA test and been awarded the ‘EFTTA Approved’ logo.

“We received positive feedback from both exhibitors and visitors at the exhibition and we hope to encourage more line companies to submit their lines for testing.”
