Fishing report for week ending 9th December, 2012

A very quiet week at Emperor Lakes, the weather has really taken its toll on the number of visiting anglers, but there have still been fish on the bank….

Our top story this week comes once again from Chris Rampling who has netted yet another one of our bigger syndicate water residents known as ‘Little Blackie’ which is believed to be one of the original stock fish from years gone by. Chris offered his favourite ACE Baits Animal pop ups to bag the big two tone fish at 34lbs 8ozs! It’s his second big fish of the week after landing another at 27lbs 5ozs using the same bait a few days earlier. Chris has repeatedly landed big carp throughout 2012 at Emperor Lakes and has been one of our most consistent anglers.

David Pierce also had a nice result on the Syndicate water when he used his own home rolled Grange baits to bag a winter whacker of 27lbs 5ozs, and finally bailiff Jamie Parr chipped in with a common carp of 19lbs which fell to a small white pop up bait. We are taking bookings for this lake which becomes full access day ticket in April 2013, so if you would like to target carp in excess of 40lbs and even bigger catfish, then please contact us on 07814060147.

To round up this week’s carp captures, we are pleased to report several fish to upper doubles from the existing day ticket lakes; Steve Penn reported a Pallatrax Jungle caught mirror of 14lbs 1oz and Steve Renyard Contrast baits accounted for a lovely 18lbs 7ozs carp for Matt Drury.

The diggers have finally rolled in this week with a number of test holes excavated to see what our substrate offers in terms of clay or otherwise. Initial investigations have proved very pleasing, so work to increase the area of Aimee’s Pool should commence imminently. Emperor Lakes also intend to further enhance other waters onsite and add further lakes over the next two years, so please keep an eye on our website at www.emperorlakes.co.uk for the latest details.

PikeElsewhere, on our NEW pike water, we have seen invited anglers sample the fishing on offer before we open to the public on December 15th. Ten anglers including professional angling guide Julian Chidgley tried their luck and successfully tempted a good number of pike including a new personal best for Russ Hilton who snaffled a beautifully marked fish of 18lbs 14ozs which now has pride of place on our Facebook wall!

We hope to have one final esteemed guest this week before we officially open our pike water in the form of respected big fish angler, writer and programme maker Martin Bowler. Many anglers will know Martin from his writings in Angling Times and other publications and also incredibly popular television series including “Catching the Impossible” so it’s our pleasure to welcome Martin as a visitor. We asked Martin some time ago to come and sample what we have on offer at Emperor Lakes and a space has been found in his busy schedule, so weather permitting, we hope to have more fish to report next week!

As ever, our social media sites continue to provide constructive feedback from anglers and customers who pull no punches when it comes to offering advice! Emperor Lakes try to take advantage of their willingness to contribute, and this week has been no different with a ‘heated debate’ about fishery reviews; many of our Facebook users would prefer to see a review compiled by a paying customer rather than an invited guest, so we are offering the chance for anglers to give a review….however, we are unsure what the best to do it would be… Do we pick four anglers and offer free fishing for the day in exchange for a review? Do we ask paying customers to complete a prepared ‘tick sheet’ or do we need a new angle? We would like you to help us decide, so please visit our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/emperorlakesfishery and offer your advice!
