Catch report for week ending 15th July, 2012

It’s been a week of good and bad news at Emperor Lakes; sadly, due to the exceptionally bad weather, which caused some damage, we have had to close Dan’s Lake prior to draining and repair which we hope will be completed shortly. Amongst the good news though is the capture of a carp by John Andrew which has been taken at 41lbs 8ozs. It’s a ‘new’ 40lbs+ fish which owner David Lidstone thought would break that barrier later in the year; however it’s exceeded all expectations to pile the weight on after spawning! Not content with a new personal best, John also netted a specimen of 30lbs 4ozs from our syndicate lake. On the same water, Chris Manifold had a cracking 26lbs 14ozs mirror, Mark Owen took fosh to 23lbs 4ozs, Dave Reekie was amongst fish again with a fully scaled stockie and Brian Male had a 29lbs 1oz mirror.

Mirror CarpThe day lakes are fishing superbly with cats and carp falling to a variety of baits and tactics; although the big surprise this week has been a stunning eel which came to the bank and was weighed at 6lbs 8ozs after falling for the baits of Lee Sercombe. We knew we had some good eels, we just didn’t realise how good!

The big cats continue to grace the bank with a series of good fish this week; Martin Sims had a moggie of 48lbs 6ozs and Darren Fleet saw a fish of 33lbs 1ozs in his weigh sling. Our carp have definitely been getting their heads down to feed too; a couple of our thirties have fallen to Mark Green who had a 30lbs 2ozs fish and Paul Clarke who slipped the net under a 35lbs specimen. Elsewhere, Craig Lacey used Pallatrax baits to land carp to 15lbs+ during a North Devon Fishing Tips and Banter Facebook Group social (look them up) when they booked the lake out recently. They had such a pleasant time they have already booked again for 48 hours in September, so we look forward to seeing them again; a big thank you is due to Fiona Laing who organised the event.

Loads of carp taken on the day lakes by other anglers including Eric Bunting (13lbs 4ozs) Steve Greenslade (20lbs 2ozs) Ron Blatchford (24lbs 1oz) Glyn Sercombe (15lbs 4ozs & 20lbs 4ozs) Darren Shovel (25lbs+) and Doug Newton (18lbs 8ozs & 21lbs 8ozs) to name but a few. Many baits scoring well, but Pallatrax seem to be doing the business, especially the Jungle baits (tigernut and peanut). A polite reminder to visitors that we do not allow shelf life baits.

On Aimee’s Pool, Jamie Parr landed a mixed bag of over 70lbs, Stuart Johnson managed 65lbs+ and many others reporting nets of more than 40lbs to corn, maggot and pellet. No need for anything complicated, simple rigs and fresh bait will do well.

In other news, Emperor Lakes are currently featured in Carp-Talk magazine as we have offered two lucky anglers a 48 hour midweek pass and Pallatrax bait package as a prize which runs until July 25th; please see magazine for details. Our brand new website should be up and running within 14 days, and to finish, we are pleased to announce that after all planning has been completed, we are soon to commence work on a number of new pools, so watch this space for more information!
