Fishery report by Clint Walker for week ending 24th June, 2012

Appalling weather hasn’t appeared to put the fish off the feed this week with a number of big carp caught on the specimen waters and huge mixed bags across the other pools. Catfish have also been providing sport, with Kevin Locke banking a beauty of 47lbs 9ozs, he also took four carp and another cat of 16lbs 2ozs during an early morning session. Maxine Kirkland visited Dan’s Lake for the first time and tempted a new personal best cat of 33lbs 7ozs, so the cats are really on the move now and taking baits all over. We would like to remind readers that any catfish over 70lbs (current record is 68lbs 8ozs) will win an amazing six month free fishing pass from April to October! It’s a prize worth winning and we hope to see our record be broken soon!

The syndicate water has thrown up some stunning fish this week, Steve Ellison had a lovely mirror of 35lbs 12ozs, Pallatrax backed Tim Mountjoy had a fantastic brace weighing in at 22lbs and 35lbs 2ozs (another pb) fishing from the Waterfall swim using Pallatrax Jungle baits, Nigel Edgecombe chipped in with a 27lbs 15ozs mirror, but catch of the week must surely go to syndicate regular Dave Reekie who banked an astonishing five fish hit from First swim weighing in with a 28lbs 4oz mirror, a common of the same weight, another mirror of 26lbs 4ozs and then mirror carp of 30lbs 12ozs and 34lbs! There are also tench to around 6lbs falling to carpers baits….

Day ticket angler Chris Blythe was kind enough to get in touch to thank staff at Emperor Lakes for the advice he was given during his recent visit; Head Bailiff was on hand to offer help which resulted din Chris banking a lovely brace of mid double carp and is now looking forward to his next session. Coaching is available from qualified angling tutors by prior arrangement.

Also on the day ticket waters, Dave Wood captured a cracker at 36lbs 12ozs to bag a new personal best and take his second 30lbs+ fish from the day lakes which proves just how well our fishery management team are maintaining our waters to promote such fantastic growth. We now have a total of approximately sixteen carp over the 30lbs+ barrier! Many other anglers reported a lot of carp in the 13-19lbs bracket and pleasure anglers are taking nets of 70lbs+ mainly to corn or pellet baits.
