The first of what will soon be 40,000 new fish to be introduced to Bewl Water have been delivered.

Restocking the 770-acre reservoir and upgrading and reinstating the fishery were one of the first priorities of the new owners, Markerstudy Leisure, when they took over the site in January.

Deliveries of the new stock started at the turn of the month, with 2,800 2lb plus rainbow trout arriving in each shipping, transported overnight from the West Country.

Some are released directly into the lake, while others are transferred to a holding net before being transported to other areas, ensuring an even distribution of new stock around the water.

“The fish are transported in special vehicles that meet all welfare standards and they are released into the lake as soon as they arrive,” said Andrew Daniells, Chief Operating Officer of Markerstudy Leisure.

“Over the next few weeks we will continue to take deliveries and, when coupled with work on the fishery, this will ensure high levels of quality fish are maintained at Bewl.”

Day tickets at Bewl Water are £28 for an eight fish ticket, with boat hire ranging from £18 for a half day for one angler, to £31 for a full day for two.

Annual season tickets are also available.
