Pole fishing invention set to take the pole fishing world by storm

NEWS RELEASE

A Yorkshire fisherman and his inventor friend are set to take the pole fishing world by storm, after launching their revolutionary adjustable pole rest onto the market at “The Big One” fishing exhibition.

The Fisheazy Autorest – which has been described as “the biggest technological advance in pole fishing since the advent of the pole” – as the world’s first automatically adjustable pole rest. It enables pole anglers to easily & accurately alter the position of the pole tip above the water, avoiding the traditional hassles associated with adjusting settings every time pole length or position is changed.

“The response to this invention has been absolutely incredible,” said Eddie Longbottom, a Castleford-based pole fisherman and partner in Fisheazy Ltd. “Anglers who have trialed the product have all been saying that it’s changed their whole experience of fishing the pole”.

The story starts when Longbottom -a lifelong pole angler – was becoming increasingly frustrated at spending all his angling time fiddling with the bars on his rig to set his pole to the right height and position. “I was spending 90% of my time adjusting the thing”, says Longbottom. “At one session I, along with three of my fellow anglers, slipped in the water from leaning over adjusting the poles. I have lost mobile phones, car keys, and I’m always losing my glasses. I thought to myself, there must be an easier way of doing this. Plenty of my fishing friends had the same grumbles: somebody should invent an adjustable pole rest, they all said.”

It was after one particularly frustrating fishing session, when Longbottom had dropped his glasses in Kippax Lake and ended up knee-deep in the rushes, that he shared his idea with his inventor friend, Charlie Mylonas. Mylonas is the inventor of the renowned “Just B4 Tee” golf ball washer, which is now found on golf courses throughout the UK. Intrigued by his friend’s idea, Mylonas set about designing a prototype adjustable autorest.

“There were numerous problems during the development stage,” Mylonas says, “not least the need to come up with something sturdy enough to cope with a 16 metre pole on a windy day!” Undeterred, Mylonas tested several prototype designs, eventually settling on the design that has become The Fisheazy Autorest. “One of the key issues,” said Mylonas, “was finding the right motor. We needed something that moved slowly, but with good strength and great durability. Eventually, I sourced the perfect motor from Cyprus – from a company that makes motors for turning rotisseries and kebabs!”

Fisheazy AutorestOnce the prototype was ready, Mylonas invited Eddie Longbottom to test the rest. “I was amazed,” said Longbottom. “It was so easy to use it was unbelievable. It takes 90% of the hassle out of pole fishing, and reduces the accidents by at least the same. I’ve been using the prototype for six months, and during that time I’ve not dropped my mobile phone, car keys or glasses, and not fallen in once!”

Once the prototype was perfected and tested, the pair enlisted the help of Richard Hall, designer with PD-M international of Harrogate, who turned the rest into a marketable item. Hall sourced manufacturers, managed the patent and trademark applications, and ensured that the final product achieved the highest possible standards.

The company also benefited from the support of Business Link. “We were really grateful for the help from Business Link,” said Mylonas. “Without them, we would not have been able to get this far. They were particularly interested in how the Autorest helps disabled fishermen. There has been a massive increase in the number of disabled people taking up angling in recent years, and the Fisheazy Autorest will ensure that thousands more will be able to enjoy pole angling in the future.” Following the enthusiastic response of all anglers involved in the pre-launch trials of the product, the pair are excited about the prospects for their brainchild. “We knew from our initial research,” Mylonas explained, “that there was going to be real interest in the Fisheazy Autorest. But it is only in the last few weeks that we realised what a massive difference it will make to pole fishing.”

The Fisheazy Autorest will shortly be available from www.fisheazy-autorest.com, or via local angling retailers.

STOP PRESS

The Fisheazy-Autorest was launched at ‘The Big One’ show at Farnborough on 20th February 2010 to a spellbound audience. Comments & feed-back from both the public & the Professional Angling community was universally positive. The Trade Press are eagerly reviewing the product, & the editorials should appear in the next few weeks.

Although introduced initially with safety & ease of use in mind, the viewers pointed out other benefits such as;
‘This will be invaluable to young Anglers to stop them developing back problems’
‘Great for Anglers who have back problems! I can start fishing again’
‘This will even help you fish with a bad pole’
‘The speed of adjustment allows you to fish the whole peg or area quickly & efficiently’
