NEW to Horse & Country TV – Summer 2010

NEWS RELEASE

A new, beautifully shot documentary about angling and the natural history of the Hampshire Avon is coming to Horse & Country TV (SKY channel 280) on Friday 4th June at 10pm.

Entitled ‘Four Seasons on the Hampshire Avon’, the documentary was three years in the making by devoted film maker and angler, Paul Witcher. Spectacular photography captures the changing moods of the river throughout the year and this programme devotes as much attention to angling pursuits, as it does to the varied and fascinating wildlife of this lovely environment.

Four Seasons on the Hampshire AvonThe hour-long film features angling friends John Searl, Peter Baker, Peter Orchard, Peter Williamson and John Slader whose collective ability with rod in hand results in the capture of some amazing specimens such as a 25lb pike, an 11lb barbel and perhaps rarest of all, a roach in excess of the magical 2lbs.  Other specimen fish featured include carp, chub and trout but the real star of the film is the river itself from its very source in the Vale of Pewsey right down to the estuary at Christchurch.  This documentary is a must for all angling enthusiasts and will delight audiences who have a keen interest in the countryside and country pursuits. On a more serious note it also highlights ecological issues and the plight of threatened species such as the salmon, barn owl, water vole and hare.

Jonathan Rippon, Head of Programming at H&C said; “We’re delighted to be showing Four Seasons. Angling is an important genre for the channel and this programme will appeal across the board. It’s a visual treat for anglers and countryside lovers alike.”
