News Release

With an ever-increasing population, it’s only natural that mobile forms of fishing are probably more popular today than ever before. Fishing has always been about ‘getting away from the madding crowds’, so a walk to achieve that goal is part of the enjoyment.

In my life, lure fishing and beach fishing have played a part – with each, there are times when you just want to take the minimum of clobber and get as far away from it as possible, sometimes for peace of mine, but often just to get to the bigger fish! Other friends of mine are into rock fishing (not that many rocks here in Suffolk, I’m afraid!) – they need mobility, but for slightly different reasons to me!

With that in mind, the following news release may be of interest to some anglers.

Geigerrig hydration packNew and unique performance hydration packs from Geigerrig are set to quench the thirsts of hikers, bikers, runners and climbers by up to 30% more thanks to an innovative and hygienic pressurised water dispensing system.

New to the UK, patent-pending Geigerrig pressurised hydration packs utilise a specially engineered hydration bladder and pressure bulb to spray water into the user’s mouth, providing a continuous and sanitary delivery of water.

Garry Woodhouse, Sales & Marketing Director at UK distributors Whitby & Co. said: “Geigerrig hydration packs were developed to provide a more effective way of drinking water while on the move. By drinking from an automatic pressurised stream of water as opposed to sucking from a pack and bite valve often contaminated with ‘backwash’, users can take on 30% more water. This extra hydration is essential and allows users to enjoy their activities for longer.”

The spray action of Geigerrig hydration packs also provides a number of sanitary and ingenious benefits. Users can share water with friends without contaminating the water pipe with saliva, use the pack to spray water into their dog’s mouth, clean mud off hands, faces and equipment or squirt water over the head to help cool down after demanding physical activity.

Geigerrig hydration packGarry continued: “Outdoor activities are often enjoyed in groups – and there is nothing more unpleasant than sharing a drinking tube with a friend that is full of spit and backwash due to use during aerobic activity. The Geigerrig hydration pack is operated by gently pressing on the bite valve, eliminating the need for mouth contact and providing a sanitary way to share water.

“The spray action is also handy to rehydrate dogs on long walks meaning users don’t have to take a dog bowl out with them.”

Geigerrig launched in the USA in 2010 and recently won the In-New-Vation award for best new product for its RIG 500 Ballistic Nylon 8L hydration pack.

There are seven different Geigerrig hydration packs incorporating the hydration engines which have two and three litre capacities. Each Geigerrig pack has ergonomically fitting and adjustable shoulder straps with a removable waist strap* and integrated slider chest strap, a waterproof MP3 player/mobile phone compartment and separate internal organiser compartments.

The hydration bladder – or Geigerrig Hydration Engine – also has a unique easy care system to keep it free from mildew or mineral build-up. The Hydration Engine has a wide opening slide seal that allows the whole pack to be turned inside out and washed in a dishwasher – unlike sucking hydration packs that have a small screw top and have to be cleaned using bespoke accessory brush tools.

In addition, the Geigerrig hydration pack features a quick release valve on the drinking tube to allow for the easy removal of the Hydration Engine, without having to thread the tube through the straps on the pack – making cleaning and refilling more convenient.

Geigerrig hydration packs start from £79.95 RRP and are available from all good outdoor stores.
