Angling For Youth Development News Release

The Glamis Countryside Show in Angus, is to be held on Saturday 5th, & Sunday 6th September, 2009, and Angling For Youth Development instructional staff and participants are to be there in force.

With over 50 qualified coaching and instructional staff now working in Scotland, supported by numerous volunteers, AFYD can rightly claim to be Scotland’s largest youth angling training organisation.  Following the recent announcement of their qualified SCQF Level 5 Game Angling Course, AFYD have been inundated with requests to set up further programmes throughout Scotland.

AFYD have a marquee at the event and are promoting their organisation and providing a number of activities to assist in their fund raising.  Approximately 48 AFYD representatives from Perthshire, Renfrewshire, Angus, and West Lothian will be in attendance to assist in promoting the Trusts work. 

Also present within the AFYD marquee will be representatives from Fastnets, Guide Fishing Tackle, SANA, and SFSA .

The latest AFYD launches at Glamis
At 2-30 p.m. on Sunday the 6th September 2009 the Glamis Countryside Show sees the latest AFYD group, West Lothian, being presented with their angling equipment.  This will be presented to them by representatives of Fastnet, Guide Fishing, and Chief Inspector Barclay of Tayside Police on behalf of the Trustees.

Stuart Gibson, a West Lothian Council education officer, and the latest AFYD Project Leader said “We’re delighted to be involved in the AFYD programme and look forward to offering it to all the secondary schools in West Lothian over the next 2 years.  We see that AFYD has the potential to develop further high quality vocational / educational packages in the years to come and we wish to be active partners in that development.   We are seeking Anglers and Fly Tiers in West Lothian to come and help us.  Anyone interested in helping us from any of the angling disciplines please contact me on 01501678000 or via the AFYD website”.

AFYD would be delighted to greet the press at their Marquee at the event on either day and answer any questions about their work.

Appendix
AFYD are undertaking the following activities:

Fly Tying
John Cameron, AFYD Trust senior instructor, will be responsible for overseeing the fly tying sessions.   East Perthshire AFYD will be providing the equipment to service 4 tables.

Trout Pond
AFYD are assisting Blairgowrie and Rattray District Angling Association at the trout Pond by providing additional Coaches and Assistants to allow youngsters to spin fish for Trout.  The equipment is provided by BRDAA.

Throw Lines will be supplied by East Perthshire AFYD for use at the pond

Tombola/Products
Set up within the Marquee will be a tombola the tickets for which will be 20p each (5 for a pound) and a products table.  The products being sold by AFYD are supporters caps and sew on badges, and copies of “An Introduction to Practical Fly Tying”, a  book by Allan Bithell, the prices being £8, £3-50, and £15 respectively.  We will also be promoting and taking subscriptions for Fly Fishing and Fly Tying Magazine.

Casting competition
The casting competition is to cast a spinner into a bucket, 3 goes for £1-00, for each time the spinner enters and stays in the bucket the participant will win a prize, the level of prize increasing for the number of times that the spinner is cast successfully into a bucket.   The top prize is a £50 gift voucher for 3 out of 3 successful casts.

Casting Display
Steve Gill, AFYD Trust Senior Instructor, will be undertaking a casting demonstration assisted by Charlie Ramsay and Graham Lee, accompanied by 3 of the East Perthshire Participants.  Full details of times for the displays are yet to be confirmed.
